"Hearts change colors like leaves." - TV on the Radio

Well, here it is, the new hair color. I feel kinda bad ass with my new darker do. I'm debating about going back and getting a few highlights to break things up. Of course, it's going to get lighter as I wash it, so I think I'll wait a few washes before I decide.

While I was in the salon last week, my hair stylist informed me that he had checked out my blog and really loved all the photos. He offered to style my hair for some future photo shoots and even suggested we go to his house to take some photos in his picturesque yard!  Needless to say, I didn't hesitate to take him up on his offer. Free hair do's by a master stylist: yes, please! To give me a little taste, he decided to braid my hair in a herringbone pattern. He told me this hairstyle looked better the messier it got, so he wanted me to go home and sleep on it. So, that's what I did, and this is how it looked the next day. I really loved it! I can't wait to see what he does next time!

The location for this photo shoot was the purple mule grass that served as my backdrop a few months ago. My, how it has changed! It has faded from a fiery purple to a golden beige. It's not as dramatic but still beautiful. In some ways, I prefer all the muted tones of winter. I especially love the bare trees, their branches exposed and reaching up towards the sky.

Speaking of changes, I was shocked to read that Heidi Klum and Seal are getting a divorce. They seemed to be so in love. The reason given in the statement for the separation was that they had grown apart, but they still loved and respected one another. This really hit close to home. As I know all too well, a divorce is a really sad event, but it's good when the couple can part amiably, especially when children are involved. I know I'm in the minority here, but I get it. The heart changes. People can and do grow apart. I don't think they should be forced to stay together because of children or society's expectations. Everyone deserves to be happy. Divorce is sad, but it's more sad to stay in an unhappy marriage. The fact is everything changes, and change can be a sad thing when we long for the familiar, the way things used to be. However, it can also be a positive thing when it moves us forward into a better life.

  1. Aaaaah! Your hair looks so amazing! It really brings out your eye color and your skin tone-- that third picture is one of my favorites that you've ever posted.

I was surprised about Heidi Klum and Seal, too... I guess it just goes to show that the only people who really know what's going on in a marriage are the ones in it. I'm glad it seems to be on decent terms though.

  2. I love your darker hair color. It really highlights your gorgeous eyes and skin. I say keep this shade for a little while. It'll lighten up as you wash it, but it looks great!

  4. Love the darker do. It's a keeper!
While I don't like to admit that I follow celebrity gossip (shhh don't tell!) I was surprised by the Heidi/Seal break up too. So sad, they seemed so in love with each other.

  5. Okay- DO NOT go back and get highlights! It looks AMAZING! It makes you look younger, is such a beautiful contrast with your skin and eyes. Keep it the way it is- just my opinion. :) These pictures are lovely, Bonnie. I really look forward to reading your blog.

  9. I love the new color! It looks nice with the 2 colors blended. Red always washes up really fast (too fast!) so I wouldn't do anything else. It looks great with your coloring and the green top.

I'm always sad to hear about long-time couples divorcing too. What I've realized is that relationships don't necessarily have to end, they can evolve and change, and that is a really wonderful thing. I've seen couples transition into being friends and co-parents and still be supportive of each other. I think that says a lot about the relationship and the partners involved when that can happen.

  12. Love the hair and love the outfit!!
As was already mentioned - your hair will fade a little between retouches, so as long as it fades nicely, it'll be great!!

  13. I also like the new hair color! You look great. I also like the third picture. From that perspective it looks like he was up in a tree!?

  14. Thanks, Mary! Actually, he was standing on a cooler with a wide angle lens. He was going fishing after we took the pics, so the cooler came in handy!

  15. Thanks, Anna! It's been a week, and it's already faded some. I keep seeing red on my towel in the mornings. I'm really liking the color so far!

  16. Well, you're doing better than me. I can only do a regular braid in my own hair. And forget about doing my daughter's hair! She is just like me at her age and won't let anybody come near her hair. LOL!

  17. Thanks! And your right, red does wash up too fast!

I love what you said here about relationships evolving. My ex and I get along great. We even joke around with each other. Despite what happened, we are still able to be friends and co-parents for our children's sake.

  21. Thanks, Chrissieb! It's been a week, and it's already fading some. It was a little too dark for me at first, but I'm starting to like it better now that it's lightening up some.

  22. Thanks, Julie! Yeah, the third picture was taken with a wide angle lens. Jerry really loves that lens. I like it sometimes, too. It depends on whether it's making my head look elongated like a alien or not. LOL! That lens can do some trippy things if it's pointed too close at me.
