Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews

I took a trip to my local Anthropologie store a couple of weekends ago to make some returns, but I ended up making some exchanges and then some. It's funny how that works sometimes. My last trip to the store I hardly saw anything I wanted to try on, but this time I was overwhelmed by the number of items I fell in love with.  Many of Anthro's Spring arrivals have a boho vibe to them, much to the detriment of my pocketbook. I've got a lot of reviews for you, so let's just jump right into them.

Striped Empire Day Dress ($98) with Tiago Corset Belt ($58)  This dress wasn't even on my radar until I saw it on a mannequin in the store with this brown belt. I fell in love as soon as I got this little ensemble on my body. I took a medium in the dress and a large in the belt. The straps are a tad bit long on the medium, but I felt I needed the larger size to accommodate my boobs. I tried the belt on in a medium at first, but this belt fits like a true corset belt. In other words, it's "unbreathably" tight, so I decided to go with a large in the belt for comfort. This outfit is super comfortable and chic to boot! Purchased both.
*On a side note, Anthro, if you are going to charge an arm and a leg for your merchandise, can you at least clean your mirrors every once in awhile. Gross.

Smocked Tank ($48) with Sanoh Gauze Skirt ($148)  I apologize for the blurriness of this photo. Wait...on second thought, I'm kinda glad it's blurry, because this outfit was a disaster. I had wish listed these two pieces after seeing them online but was very disappointed in them in person. I tried the tank on in a medium, and it just sort of hung on me and did nothing for my shape. As most of you know, I'm usually all about shapeless clothing, but even this was too shapeless for me. Tucking it into the skirt helped, but I still wasn't digging it. I didn't really like the print as much in person. The skirt was the real shocker here, though. I just knew a maxi skirt wouldn't fail me. Wrong. I tried on a size small, because this skirt has a lot a material, so it looked like it ran large. I think a medium would have been a better fit through the waist, but I just couldn't get past the weird gathers in the front. They were super unflattering. Pass on both.

Smocked Malee Dress ($148)  I have loved this dress ever since I saw it for the first time on the cover of the catalog. It was a total "gasp moment" for me. I still loved it even after Jerry said it made the model look like she was bleeding from her nipples. So, I was crazy excited to try this one on, but I was apprehensive, because the online reviews had said that it was super tight through the arms. I tried on a size 8 first, and I had no problems what so ever with tight arms. I could even wear the smocking down on my shoulders or up to cover my bra straps. The only issue I had was that the material did this weird poufy thing at the small of my back. I think the 8 was a little too tight through my hips and was causing material to gather there. I wasn't ready to give up on this one yet, so I went up to a size 10. Bingo! The extra room in the hips made the dress hang like the beautiful boho sack it was meant to be. I should also mention I tried it with a belt which looked okay but made the dress a little too short for my taste. I prefer it loose and flowy like this. Oh, and for once I think my big boobs helped me out. They pushed the embroidered cascade of flowers further over on my chest, so no bleeding nipple syndrome here. Purchased.

Sunstream Eyelet Dress ($128)  I think it comes as no surprise that I was drawn to the color of this dress. I was, however, pleasantly surprised by it's lightweight fabric. Judging from the picture online, it looked like the fabric would be much heavier. I tried a size 8, but it seemed a little big on me. I think a 6 would have been a better fit. However, I just didn't like the white fabric showing through the eyelet. It gave the illusion that my skin was showing through and cheapened the look, in my opinion. On a positive note, the cutout and bow on the back were adorable. Pass.

Pakpao Maxi Dress ($168)  This is another dress that captured my attention in the catalog. I wasn't a big fan of the fabric on the hanger, but once I got the dress on, I changed my tune. It was super comfortable, flattering, and eye catching. I tried on a size 8 at first, but the arm holes hung down a little low exposing my bra. I decided to go down to a size 6 and that did the trick. Purchased.

Paisley Trails Tee ($88)  I loved the way this blouse was styled in the catalog with pink colored jeans, which I just so happen to have a pair of already. The store was all out of mediums, so I tried on a large. The large actually fit perfect. It's completely sheer, so it's good to have the extra room for a cami. Jerry was a big fan of this shirt. He said I looked like a cowgirl in it and that all I needed was a hat and something to ride...and well, I'll spare you the rest of what Jerry said, because things got really X-rated from there. Dirty old man. Purchased.

Novelty Collar Tee ($48)  I just tried this one on for fun. It's not really my style with it's sugary sweet peter pan collar, but I love the butterflies. This is a size medium, and I thought the fit was good. Like I said, though, it just wasn't me. Pass.

Striped Scenery Tee ($78)  I've really jumped on the stripe bandwagon lately, so I decided to give this little tee a go. This is a size medium and although it fit I didn't care for the looks of it. The split in the collar seemed very geometric and severe, and the floral embroidery seemed disjointed from the rest of the top. Pass.

Pompom Peasant Blouse ($148)  I can never pass up a good peasant blouse, so I had to give this one a try. I knew I wouldn't be getting it even if I liked the fit because it's too similar to the Smocked Malee Dress to justify owning both pieces. I tried on a size 6, and I liked the fit. However, for the price, it made more sense to purchase the fully lined dress version rather than the sheer blouse. Pass.

Porto Garden Blouse ($128)  Here's another overpriced blouse. Once again, I tried on a size 6, and once again, I liked the fit. I felt the print was a little granny, though. Still, I might consider this one if it comes way down in price. Wish listed.

Patchwork Meadow Top ($88)  I loved the print on this top but was unsure about the "bling" on the placket. I decided to try in on anyway in a size medium. I really liked it, but I just couldn't get past that gaudy sequined placket. I felt it took away from the earthy feel of the rest of the top. Pass.
