Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews - Round 2

Rolo Crossback Dress ($118).  I spotted this dress online recently in the pink colorway and was very excited about it's potential. It looked very similar to the Torchon Embossed Pointe Dress which I already have and love dearly. In fact, I thought it was the same dress modified for Summer. What could be better, I thought, than a comfortable dress with an amazing fit that I already own? That same dress in a different color with a cute cutout in the back! Boy was I disappointed. First off, I noticed that the fabric seemed a little heavier than the fabric on the Torchon dress, not exactly what I was looking for in a Summer dress. I tried on a size medium, the same size I have in the Torchon, and it was pretty snug and low cut through the chest. I thought about sizing up to a large, but I didn't think that would solve the tightness issue as I think the top is suppose to be tight in order for the crossback to fit properly. I think if I had a smaller chest this dress would be perfect on me, but, unfortunately, there's not a deflate option on these suckers (wouldn't that be cool), so back to the rack it went.

Cerise Stamped Dress ($148).  I've never been much of a polka dots person, but I have to admit they've been winning me over lately. I was very attracted to this dress because it was polka dots done in a very boho way. The dots are irregularly shaped and the dress is made from a nice linen fabric that gives the dress a casual feel rather than the usually preppy vibe of polka dotted dresses. There are ruffles cascading down the skirt and a ruffle around the hem that dips a bit in the back, a trend I've been seeing in the hems of many dresses lately. Jerry pointed out that this would be a great dress for July 4 with a navy blue cardigan. Look at him being Mr. Stylist. Anyway, I tried on a size 8, and the fit was okay. I can't really point out anything that was wrong with the dress. It just didn't blow me away. It's a shame, because I really wanted to like it.

Sundown Crochet Maxi Dress ($138).  This is another dress I spotted online and couldn't wait to see in person. It brings together 2 of my favorite things: crocheted fabric and the maxi dress. Also, I was really digging the vibrant, coral color. This dress seemed like a home run for me. The only thing that could go wrong was the fit. It has been getting great reviews online, so I just knew it would work for me too. Um...yeah...not so much. I tried on a size medium, and it just hit me in all the wrong places. My boobs hung out, my hips looked wide, and my stomach looked fat. Sticking with my baseball analogy, that's 3 strikes, and this dress was out. Funny thing is, Jerry seemed to really like it. I guess the things that are strikes in my book are pluses in his. Men!

Esker Maxi Skirt ($118).  This skirt has been on my wishlist for weeks now, even though I had never actually seen it in person. I just had a feeling it would work on me. Unfortunately, it didn't. Damn! My dreams of being a phychic are over. In my defense, how could I've forseen that this skirt would be made for a freakishly tall person? I mean, really, I had this thing pulled up to my belly button and there were still inches of fabric lying on the floor. I tried on a size medium, and it seemed to fit fine everywhere else. I don't know, maybe it's meant to be worn with really tall platform shoes. Whatever the case, I prefer to wear my maxi skirts with flats. If it's still around during sale time, I might considering buying it and getting it hemmed. For now, I'll pass.

Mystery Top. I can't seem to find this one online. I tried it on because I thought the laser cut pattern was pretty. However, I didn't care for this top on me. The way it cut in on my shoulders made me look like a linebacker. Definitely not the look I was going for. This was a size medium. Pass.

Blushing Flounced Blouse ($98) with Season Staple Shorts ($58).  This little blouse reminded me of Spring with it's flowy fabric, cheery color, and ruffled neckline. I tried a size 8, and although I loved the color, I didn't care for the sheer fabric and overwhelming ruffle. I would have to wear a cami under this top for it to work, and I'm not big on layering in the Summer. Also, the ruffle just seemed a little, well, too rufflely for my taste. The shorts, on the other hand, were great. I loved the lightweight fabric. Strangely, that's very hard to find in shorts. I sized up to a 10, because I like to wear my shorts futher down on my hips. The fit was perfect. They even passed the sit test! What is the sit test, you ask? A very scientific test that I came up with all by myself. Basically, I sit down in the dressing room and if the fat on my legs is not being squeezed to death by the shorts, or the shorts are not riding up into my nether regions then they pass the test. These passed with flying colors, a rare feat indeed. I purchased the pair you see here, and I have added a couple of the other colors to my wish list.

Swept Skylar Tank ($78).  Last, but not least, I give you the Swept Skylar Tank. I do love me some eyelet, so this top was a must for the fitting room. I tried a size small, and the fit was good, but the eyelet fabric was a bit too poufy. I didn't like the way it stuck out so far on my hip. Also, the length is a little odd. I wish it was either a little shorter, to wear with jeggings, or a little longer, to wear as a dress. Another negative was that it was really sheer. Depsite the pretty eyelet, this top had too many negatives to consider purchasing.

  1. That polka dot dress looks great on you. I haven't been to your site lately, so I really noticed that you are looking leaner than a few months ago. You look really good!

  2. Sit test! You are a riot! ;)-

Mystery top is GORGEOUS! You do not look like a linebacker at all! You have very small shoulders, girlfriend. Love that top! The blushing flounce top was pretty too. Look at me being all contrary!

  3. That crochet maxi dress is ridiculously, graphically see-through. I would seriously reconsider posting that picture.

  4. Calm down. Don't get your panties in a wad! LOL!

The dress is fully lined, so that is not my skin you are seeing underneath the dress. I guess the lighting in the dressing room is putting some shadows in some strategic places. Dirty lighting!

  5. Yes, you are being quite contrary! Thanks for the shoulder compliment. Trust me, those 2 tops weren't all that in person. It's amazing how different things look in a crappy, cell phone photo. Maybe I need to start taking Jerry into the dressing room with me so he can take pictures with his fancy camera. Hmm...that could get interesting. ;-)

  6. Oh, Kate, I love you! I don't think I've lost any weight, but thanks anyway!

  7. Is that crocheted maxi dress lined? It looks totally see through. Maybe it's just the lighting?

  8. I'm not really a shorts lady per se, but I may be swayed on account of how great you look in the Season Staple Shorts, and the sit test, of course. (:

p.s. Hope your day was super!

  9. OK, Bonnie.. embrace your beautiful shoulders!! They look fabulous in "mystery top" they are perfect in that top! Polka dot dress looks cool and summer-y :D I totally agree with you on the collar on the "Blushing Blouse" . I don't like the crochet dress at all.. in the picture it looks cheap. Maybe its the lighting.. and I'm sure you would rock it well but I think Anthro should rethink that dress all together.
Also.. I LOVE that ring .. could you give some info on that please :D

  10. The crochet dress looks good on you, but I do agree that it looks semi-pornographic.

  11. Thanks for the input! We should go shopping together sometime!

The ring is a recent puchase from The Limited. Here's a link: http://www.thelimited.com/detail/hammered-statement-ring/1542001

  13. I actually like the Mystery Top! You don't look like a linebacker at all. I think the maxi dress looks good too! Although I get how you have to be careful with maxi dresses.... they do sometimes end up showing every curve, good and bad!

  14. THIS made me laugh. Right out loud. Thanks! Have a great weekend...

  15. Fist of all - you CAN'T look like a linebacker... you are tiny! And I know EXACTLY why Jerry liked the dress on you.....it is really sexy! (ROFL - dirty lighting....hahahaha) You look as beautiful as ever. I love the shorts.... my legs are not ready for that....and either is the world! ;) Thanks for stopping by my blog... I really missed writing it.
