"We'll collect the moments one by one. I guess that's how the future's done." - Feist

Jerry and I were coming back from his brother's house this past Sunday and spotted this old, delapidated house in the middle of a muddy field. Since it was rainy and I was wearing my rain boots, we thought it would make the perfect spot for a photo shoot. After all, I don't see the point in having an awesome pair of rain boots if you are not really going to utilize them. I bought these boots back in the Fall when my oldest son was playing Football. I needed some shoes that would keep my feet warm and provide protection from the elements while I was yelling my head off on the sidelines. My first thought was to order some Hunter's in a fun color, but ultimately, I decided on this low-key black pair. They are more utilitarian than fashion forward, but sometimes (very rarely) function overrules fashion.

Work has been hell this week. My only saving grace has been coming home and spending time with Jerry. I worked 10 hours Monday and was utterly exhausted at the end of the day. It was so nice to come home to the wonderful smell of Spaghetti cooking on the stove and bread baking in the oven. After dinner, we started watching a Mad Men marathon on TV. Jerry needs to catch up before the new season starts.

Tuesday was an easier day but still stressful. After work, Jerry and I decided to go explore our soon-to-be new yard. There were all kinds of plants popping up and buds beginning to open. I can't wait to see what they will be. We did a photo shoot in the yard with some daffodils as the sun went down. The sunset was amazing. I look forward to admiring many more of these in our yard in the years to come.

Sometimes I get so discouraged when all I see is day after day of work ahead of me. Life can seem so boring and monotonous. This is why I'm so thankful for the moments I share with my loved ones. These past two evenings with Jerry have turned what could have been a stressful, frustrating week into something really wonderful. I may not live an exciting life, but those moments shared with the ones I love make it great enough.

“In the midst of aches in the joints, anxiety over the payment of bills, concern for the safety of those you love, envy of the rich, fear of robbers, dog-weariness at the end of a long day, and the unacceptable slipping away of youth, there does occasionally appear, like a ray of light piercing the clouds, a moment of joy. Perhaps you have entered the house and sat down before removing your boots. A friend has pressed a drink into your hands, and is telling you the latest news. You see from his face that he's glad you've come in; and you are glad too. Glad to be sitting down, glad of the warming glow of the drink, glad of your friend's furrowed brow and eager speech. For this moment, nothing more is required. It is in its way unimprovable. This is what I mean by the Great Enough.”

  1. Oh...that quote reminds me of my Uncle Mike. Nothing is worth more than someone who is genuinely happy to see you. I love everything about this post - those photos are the real Bonnie (and Jerry - the unseen artist on the other side). Thank you for this post! (I'm a sucker for rubber boots - four pairs and counting!)

  3. That first shot is breathtaking, Bonnie. I like the close up at the end, too. Y'know, I missed out on the Bianka blouse and am still kicking myself.

And I'm with you, I've felt so uninspired (and blah) at work this week but seeing my husband at the end of the day makes everything better.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of you at your new homestead! (:

  4. LOVE my rain boots... I have a black and white plaid pair and the only happy thing about a rainy day is that I get to wear them. :)

  5. Love the outfit AND the earrings with that shirt. Great combo! And the house is beautiful. I totally get you on the monotony of jobs. Don't judge me, but if I could make money without having a job, I'd do it! In the meantime, you might as well enjoy life's other pleasures (family and pasta are two of them!)

Good luck when you turn 50 and your saving grace trades you in for two 25 year-olds.

  12. Hey Bonnie,
Long time lurker. I saw you today at Target @ Southpoint. I was the cashier for which the debit machine would just not work for Jerry (sorry). It took me to realize that there was a reason the customer looked oddly familiar. Didn't have the guts to say that I was a fan. I wanted to tell you that the pics don't do you justice. You are much thinner and prettier in person. Hold your head up high!

  13. Girl, I'm not judging you. I'm right there with you! I don't see that happening ever for me, so I'll take the good moments when I can get 'em.

  15. Too cool! I got recognized by 2 readers today. I'm famous! LOL!

I thought Jerry and I were going to come to blows over that damn machine. I wanted it to work for me, so I could show him up. Ha, ha!

I wish you would have said something. I love meeting readers in person. Someone recognized me earlier in the day in Anthro, and I ended up giving her a hug. See what you missed? A hug from a complete stranger.

Thanks for leaving me a comment to let me know. It put a big smile on my face!

  20. I thought we were friends Sam. I just about had Bonnie convinced that it was photography that carried this blog and now that the pics "don't do her justice" I could be out of a job. While the boss has a heart of gold, the pay is rather anemic. I ask about being paid for my services and she mumbles something about Mommy needing dresses. Such is life.
