"If you're mine, I don't mind. We tried another, let's try each other. I know it's wrong, but we just don't belong." - The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

I've gotten a bit behind on outfit posts. This is what a wore this past rainy Thursday. Thank goodness for the awnings outside the businesses in downtown or outfit pics wouldn't have happened this day. I know, you would have been truly devastated...

I caught a reflection of myself in a window while walking down the hall at work, and I thought to myself, "I look very Puritan today." I guess it's the combination of this big collar with my hair pulled up. Anyway, I like it, so I'll dub this my Puritan chic look. After all, I am the Hester Prynne of the fashion blogging world. All I need is a big red A to complete my look. I'm not going there, though. Some people would get way too much pleasure from that. After all, pleasure is not the Puritan way.

  1. You should stop with the passive aggressive digs at people hating on you. "Like you care" etc etc etc. Do try to keep a positive outlook. You get what you put out there. Those lil digs at yourself and your haters are grating as all hell and make me want to unsubscribe.

  2. Geez, I'm just trying to be funny. If I grate on you so bad, unsubscribe.

  3. Omg Bonnie, so funny, when I wear my Blooming Lattice Cardi my husband totally calls it my "Puritan" sweater. Lol.

  4. Hi Bonnie,
I really enjoy your blog. I was wondering if you would take a request for a photo shoot location? I hope so, because here it is...
Could you do a shoot in or around the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library? I worked there briefly in 1997 and I would get a kick out of seeing the library on your blog.
You always have such beautiful photos on your blog and it is interesting to read too. I appreciate reading your honest take on things.
    Take care, Karen

  5. You look super cute. That sweater reminds me of one a friend of mine had in high school from the Limited. I loved that sweater. The whole thing looks really great, and your hair looks nice up.

  6. Oh, golly gee, I'm absolutely blushing over your sugary sweetness!

  7. Hi Karen! The library you know and worked at looks much different now. It went through a remodel a couple of years ago, but, yeah I'd be glad.to do a shoot there for you. Look for it next week!

  10. Yes, I second this. I wish you the best, Bonnie, but your bitter attitude has gotten to me recently. I always loved the creativity of your blog. I loved how you pulled together a song, a theme from your clothes, and a theme from your life. I loved your photography and I think you're really beautiful. I didn't even mind when you shared a lot of details about your private life, because it's your blog.

However, a lot of things about your blog make me sad. I'm really sorry about your fractured relationship with your parents. I'm sorry that their personalities hurt you and your family. I'm sorry that their attitudes tainted, in your opinion, the reliability of anyone who tells you to do anything besides follow your own whims. I'm sorry that anyone who disagrees with you makes you feel persecuted and causes you to shut down emotionally. That's really hard.

Anyway, unfortunately, I think I'm going to take a break for a while because your attitude is getting to be a little much for me. Please don't confuse this with me saying that I think you should be fake in real life, or even fake online. I just kind of need a break from the "me me me" way of looking at things for my own sanity. But I wanted to say thanks for all the great photos and thoughts, and I wish you well in all that you do and hope you find peace in your life. Keep up your great sense of humor. You're at your best when you take yourself lightly. :)

  11. Glad to see you breaking out these "oldies" but goodies from anthro.
It motivates me to dig into my closet instead of hitting the mall.

  12. Great outfit! Those dark, rich colors look fantastic on you!

  13. I love this outfit! It looks Parisian to me, like you're off to buy some flowers and a baguette. Great ring, too.

  14. Sorry you feel this way, Jo. Personally, I think I've handled all the criticism throw my way pretty damn good. The decisions I've made in my life have not been a result of me "following my whims." They have been thought over, analyzed, and difficult one's to make. I guess that's why I get so upset sometimes when people who don't even know me tell me what they think I should have done, and most of them do it in a very condescending way. It especially upsets me when people attack me as a mother. I love my children and do the best I can as a mom.

Today's post was meant to be funny. I did catch a reflection of myself and think I looked Puritan. It made me laugh when I thought about myself as Puritan. That's when Hester Prynne popped into my head, and I thought about how many people would love to see me have to wear a Scarlett Letter. So, this post was just recording what had gone down in my brain that day. I guess I have a weird sense of humor.

I write about real life, and I can certainly understand how that can be depressing, but I can only write about what I'm honestly thinking or feeling, i'm bummed about losing you as a reader, but I can't change who I am to please others. You seem to understand and respect this. Thanks for reading and best wishes!

  18. This was a heartfelt comment that you completely blew off and threw away...sort of the same thing you did to your kids and your husband. You're literally and without hyperbole the most selfish person I've ever seen. Not sure how you sleep at night.

  19. I don't think you're "passive-aggressive" -- you are direct and honest in what you've gone through and I think you've been pretty fair in your discussion about what you can be held accountable for, as well as the random f*ckwittage that others try to heap on us (parents, included.)

I'm a little amused at the commenter who criticized you for being "me me me"-- all I can say is, "well duh! it's a blog about Bonnie by Bonnie. Of course it will be about Bonnie's perspective and her life. Did you think it was going to be a discussion on which cigars Winston Churchill liked (Romeo y Julieta, if one's curious)?" The idea that someone needs to stop reading your blog for his/her own sanity tells me way more about that person than about the blogger.

Anyways, back to the clothing-- love the "Puritan chic" look of this photoshoot. You can wear a scarlet A (all embellished like those first letters in each page in those medieval books of hours)-- A for Anthropologie; or, A for Adorable.
