"The district sleeps alone tonight after the bars turn out their lights and send the autos swerving into the loneliest evening." - Postal Service

This past weekend I took a little trip to DC. The original plan was to go see Death Cab For Cutie at the 9:30 Club on Friday night and then check out the sites in DC the next day. Given my issues with panic attacks lately, we had decided not to go. On Thursday, I was feeling a little better, so I made the decision that we would drive up for the concert and then drive back. So, Friday at noon, we set out for DC with the intention of returning home early the next morning.

The drive went surprisingly well, and we made good time. We arrived at the 9:30 club 1 hour early and started looking for a place to park. There were confusing signs everywhere about parking. We found a place on a side street that didn't appear to have a sign or meter. As I was pulling up to it, I hit the curb. I didn't hit it particularly hard, but it made a really loud noise. Yep, it was a flat tire. I run over curbs all the time especially when parking and have never had a flat tire in my life. We discovered upon further inspection that the curbs in DC are made out of sharp, hard granite. Brilliant! So, given this new development, we decided to stay in DC overnight. I've never stayed overnight somewhere without toiletries or a bag full of clothes. This was "roughing it" for me. LOL! When we got back to the car after the concert, I had a $50 parking ticket in my windshield. The hits just kept on coming!

The next morning and $200 later, I had a new tire, and we decided to check out the sites like we orginally planned. I'm so glad we did. It was good for me to get away and have some distraction for one day. So, despite all the issues and money spent, I had a good time and really enjoyed checking out our nation's capital. However, I have to say I was not a fan of all the walking involved. Of course, I decided to take some Fashionista photos with all the sites we visited. "Small Town Fashionista in DC", if you will. This is my outfit from the night before, and I hadn't brushed my teeth or put on deodorant, but I worked it out anyway. Abe didn't seem to mind.

  1. The fifth picture down with you leaning back against the wall is gorgeous and by far my favorite! It would make a great blog heading picture!

  2. I am glad that you had a great time despite all the episodes in DC. It's important to get out and do something different. I feel that you should try to do something different more, since you looked very happy in the pictures. I suffer with depression, and once awhile, I finally managed to go outside. Every time, I got different perspective, and felt happy that I did leave my house. Even just a short drive around neighborhood helped. For me, trying to do something is hard, and it also brings a lot of anxiety. I am glad that you are sharing your feelings with us. I definitely feel not alone in this because of you. I really hope your family can understand you more, and fight with you together. Maybe bring them together to see your therapist can help. I brought my husband to let my therapist explain my situation, and it helped tremendously. :)

  4. I hope you had fun Bonnie despite the tyre and the parking fine!

I've never been to DC so my first thought when I saw the pics was "the guy in the chair is from the Night at the Museum (2?) film". Lol, what a loser I am!

  6. Great pics! I love DC - such a gorgeous city and the food is fantastic! How was the show?

The 9:30 club! That brings back so many memories. I was visiting my best friend in Virginia and we decided to trek there from Roanoke to see some punk band - the Casualties. Can you imagine a very preppy, skinny 19 year old girl slam dancing? Yeah, not so much but I went because my best friend wanted to go :)

Also, being from Connecticut and having never traveled to the South in the winter I thought that the "South" meant Florida weather so I brought a light leather jacket - big mistake! We ended up finding a Goodwill and I bought this vintage purple tweed coat circa 1965. It was ugly as sin but warm! That experience broke me out of my preppy shell forever!

Oh youth! Good times:) I hope you made some good memories despite the speed bumps. I think the speed bumps are part of the fun :)

  8. I am working toward overcoming life's struggles myself and can relate to the emotions you are experiencing. I would suggest two books to help you in your journey toward becoming a better you: Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer and Becoming Emotionally Whole by Charles F. Stanley. Feel better...
