"All lace and secret places." - Dashboard Confessional
I have a new favorite flower. During my trip to Tennessee, I kept seeing this wildflower growing everywhere. I asked one of our hosts what it was and she said, "Queen Anne's Lace." Upon closer inspection of this flower, I can see why it got that name. It has the most delicate and intricate petals that mimick the pattern of lace. There is a red petal in the middle that is suppose to be symbolic of Queen Anne pricking herself with a needle while sewing the lace. A quick Google search also informed me that it closely resembles the deadly poison hemlock.
It's ironic that something so beautiful could be harmful but that's the way it is with some things in life. On the surface everything can look beautiful, but upon closer inspection, we find out otherwise. It reminds me of how lace sort of obstructs the view of whatever is behind it. It looks beautiful on the outside, but what's behind it could be something totally opposite. The problem is, you never know unless you take a closer look. You have to be willing to take that chance. It just might get you lost, but it could save you.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a thought provoking post, Bonnie. I think you've hit the nail on the head in showing why it is so important to take a long and careful look before coming to conclusions about any given situation.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are truly beautiful. They do look like lace (one of my all-time favorite fabrics!)
wowzers...that first photo is breath-taking. Honestly, if that was a photo of me, I'd make it into my business card. Even if my business was dog-sitting. :o) You look wonderful.
