"Knocking on the door, hey look what's coming your way. It's everything I want. It's everything I need." - Band of Horses
I have to say I'm glad to finally see September. August was not kind to me. It started off with a burglary and ended with a conversation with a very closed-minded person. Well, it wasn't much of a conversation given that this person refused to talk to me and decided to pretend for the rest of time that I don't exist. Anyway, I'm hoping for a fresh start in September.
Even though life has been an emotional roller coaster lately, I've held pretty steady in my resolution to not shop as much. I did not step foot into an Anthropologie store during the month of August. The only thing new in this outfit is the earrings, which were only $7 from Target. I'm pretty darn proud of myself, and it's motivated me to do better in other areas of my life.
I got the scrape on my car fixed and even bought some stuff to get the yellow film off the headlights. My car looks almost as good as new. Also, I've been trying to be more active around the house. I have a tendency to come home from work and get in bed. I've been up and about cleaning things, cooking dinner, and taking the dog for walks. I feel like I've made a lot of positive changes in my life, and I'm happier for it.
I see September as a time to make even more changes, like saving money to take my kids on trips and vacations. I'm really starting to realize that happiness doesn't lie in acquiring new things but in enjoying the things I already have. It lies in focusing on the positive people in my life rather than the negative, and it lies in having confidence in myself and not seeking it from outside sources. It took me awhile to discover that the pieces have been there all along. I just needed to open the door to see them.
