A Fool for Spool

"Oh, my brother don't you worry 'bout me. Oh, I get lost in my mind" - The Head and the Heart

I was innocently browsing Facebook today when this popped up in my feed:

My heart said, "Well, hello there, cutie! You would look so good with denim and boots in the Fall!
My head said, "You are trying to be good and save money this month, remember?"
My heart said, "But it's only $24? Such a good price for such a cute top. You must make it yours!"
My head said, "Oh, brother, I don't stand a chance."

A similar battle goes on every time I see an item that catches my eye. In the past, I tended to just ignore my head and purchase any and everything that attracted me. Lately, I've been trying to give my head more of a fighting chance. If I can come up with some good reasons not to purchase an item, I don't. This has been working pretty good for me so far. In the past, I've filled up my closet with things I only wear a handful of times. Lately, I've only been purchasing items that I have ended up wearing a lot. Of course, there's still those special items, the ones that really pull on my heart strings. For those items, heart wins over head every single time. It may not be smart, but as I know all too well, smart has got nothing to do with it when it comes to love.

Luckily, this little tee from Spool 72 hit the trifecta. It's resonably priced, a great staple piece, and I fell in love with it. I immediately placed my order and didn't feel any regret. I've purchased a couple of things from Spool in the past, so I had liked them on Facebook. Hence, this tee showing up in my feed. I love the Native American/Bohemian vibe of the store. It fits very well with my aesthetic. However, a lot of their things don't usually work on my body. The dresses tend to be very short and the tops too skimpy for a big chested gal like myself. Since I was already on Spool's website today, I decided to check out their newest offerings. I was pleasantly surprised to find a number of things I loved and that I thought would work on me. Here's a few of my favs:

This is the perfect little sweater to pop over things for Fall and it's 100% cotton! Holla!

I'm absolutely smitten with these boots. Hello? They are vintage from the 70's. Only problem is they are a size 7. Dammit! I need to figure out a way to shrink my feet!

Ok, these might make a good substitute for the vintage boots. So cute and only $62!

A wish list is never complete without a little bling. I adore this feather ring. Of course, it's sold out. Hopefully, Spool will restock it!

I think I've found the key to this shopping thing. Only purchase the things that truly capture my heart, because those will be the things that stand the test of time. Case in point: I discovered the cartoon Jem on Netflix yesterday. I was obssesed with Jem when I was a little girl. I watched the show every week, had every toy, and even had cassette tapes of the songs. Anyway, I thought it would be fun last night to watch it and see if it was as good as I remembered. Most shows I've found on Netflix that were from my childhood end up being ridiculously awful when I watch them today. Land of the Lost, anyone? So how did Jem hold up? Shockingly good! I was into it and found myself singing along to the songs. Jerry even watched for a few mintues. He saw the scene where Jerrica (aka Jem) discovers that her father left her a holographic computer, tons of clothes, and all the musical equipment she would ever need. Sci-Fi, fashion, and music all in one show. Jerry took one look at me and said, "You didn't stand a chance."

  2. Love your picks- that is a great shirt!
Jem was totally the coolest! I'm adding it to my Netflix queue right now! This summer I got my kids hooked on He-Man and She-Ra. They love it! I told them that when I was a kid, there was only one show every week on Saturday mornings and I had to wait a whole week to watch another one. They looked at me like it was incredible- "Really?!!" like I lived in the Stone Age or something. So funny! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  3. For shame, Bonnie! Now I've found another website with cute clothes to lust after! All your fault! I am loving that sweater-didn't Anthro have something very similar a while back? Gosh, I may have to bite the bullet on that sweater and one other. Shhh. Don't tell my husband!

  4. I loved 'Jem' as a kid! I used to feel bad for Jerrica's sister, Kimber, because their dad didn't leave her anything. It's sad that I still remember that after about 25 years!

  5. You're welcome! LOL! Anthro has had many similar sweaters, but they have all been wool. Yuck! I couldn't believe when the description on this one said 100% cotton. I won't tell if you don't tell that I purchased the sweater too. Shhh....

  6. Thanks, Tamara!

OMG! I LOVED He-Man and She-Ra. I must had had every single He-Man figure in existence. Of course, I liked the bad guys (Evil Lynn was my fav). I never did get Castle Greyskull, but I sure as hell had Snake Mountain.

That's too funny about your kids. The horror of having to wait a whole week! LOL! One of mine asked me the other day if ice cream machines were made out of wood when I was little. I was like, "Dude, I am not THAT old!"
