Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews

Blue Bombus Dress ($118). The Blue Bombus Dress aka The Bee Dress aka The Fly Dress was an item that really caught my eye online. I instantly added it to my wish list and prayed to the Anthro gods that it would be at my local store. My prayers were answered as it was the first item I saw when I walked in the door. The print was even lovelier in person. I adore the vibrant colors and yes, I even love the bees that look like flies. Why yall hatin' on the flies? I grabbed a size 6 and made a "bee"line to the fitting room. The dress fit great everywhere except the chest area. It kinda did this weird poufy thing in the middle of the front and back. Something was just off about it. The material under my arms also stuck out in a weird way. I decided to try a size 8, but I was skeptical that it would work because the arms holes were already verging on being too big. Yep, I was right. The fit was pretty much the same as the 6 except the arm holes were way too big. I think this dress would work better on someone with a flatter chest. I was very sad this one didn't work out, but some things just aren't meant to "bee." Pass.

Sky Trails Maxi Dress ($168). I had noticed this vibrant blue dress online, but I counted it out because I thought the neckline would be too low on me. However, when I saw it in the store, I just had to try it. It's so beautiful in person, and it had more of a hippy/boho vibe to it than the catalog shot suggested. I tried a small at first, but it felt a little big. Yes, you heard me right:. the small was too big. Clearly, this dress fits huge. I had the SA grab me a x-small, and it fit perfect. Even the length was spot on. The only issue I have with it is the arm holes are a little too low cut. There are 2 pieces of fabric that meet under the arms, so I think I might have a tailor sew in a little dart on each side to keep the pieces together. Purchased with my birthday discount.

Ines Column Dress ($188). That eighth wonder of the world, the Pieced Column Dress, the dress that made my body look banging (or like a busted can of biscuits depending on who you are), now has a lacy sister in the Ines Column Dress. I tried on a size medium, and it fit great. Once again, Jerry was speechless. Let's just say he's a fan. It's a beautiful dress to be sure, but I don't know where I would wear it. This version is a little fancier than it's striped sister. I still haven't ruled it out, but I think my money would be better spent on something I could wear more often. Wishlisted.

Arched Careena Dress in Ivory ($158). I tried this dress on in my last set of reviews but in the blue colorway. I love the blue, but the last couple of dresses I've bought have been that color, so I think I'm good on blue dresses for awhile. I decided to give the ivory version a go, and I loved it just as much if not better than the blue. The size 8 was a perfect fit. I really hope this one is still around at sale time. Wishlisted.

Rusicada Asymmetric Top ($88) with Cordial Wide-Legs ($128). I fell in love with the catalog shot of this outfit. It is such a gorgeous photo and definitely did it's job of convincing me that I needed these items in my life. I tried a medium, my usual size in Tiny, and it fit beautifully. I know this top might not be for everyone, but it's right up my alley. There was no way I was leaving the store without it. I tried the jeans in a size medium, as well. They fit good, but I couldn't get past the maternity jeans vibe of the elastic waist. Yes, they are comfortable, and I love the lightweight, linen feel of the fabric, but I feel $128 is too much to pay for glorified pajama pants. Maybe I'll consider them on sale. For now, I'll pass.

Tied-Hem Tank ($58) and Blackbird Shorts ($88).  Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. I'm very much aware that these two items don't go together, but it just worked out that I had them on at the same time in the dressing room. Better that, than the alternative - my undergarments. You just think a little bit a naughty lighting and sheer fabric got people all riled up...LOL! Anyway, you'll have to try and visualize them separately. This top is pretty much the Summer version of the Catalan Tee that I purchased back in the Fall. I really love the turquoise print and cool, relaxed vibe. Most of all, I love the price. I purchased it in a size small with my birthday discount. These shorts were a little out of my comfort zone style-wise, but I'm incapable of passing up anything with a bird on it. These reminded me of a shorter version of the culottes I had to wear back in my Christian school days. I didn't hate them, but I did feel a little granny in them. Maybe styled the right way they could be cute. These are a size 8. Pass.

Endpoint Dress ($118). Ok, so this dress is way out of my comfort zone print-wise, but it looked really comfortable, so I decided to give it a try just for fun. I tried a size 8, and I thought it fit pretty good for what it is - a sack dress. It was indeed comfy, but that's about the only positive I can say about it. It just did nothing for me. Pass.

Urubamba Tank ($78) with Season Staple Shorts ($58).  I grabbed this top because I thought it looked really pretty with the shorts. Also, I wanted an excuse to get these shorts in another color. I do believe these are my most favorite shorts ever. I tried the tank in a small and the shorts in a 10. Both fit great, and I loved them together. They will be mine, all mine, very soon. Wishlisted.

  1. I'm so glad you purchased the Sky Trails maxi, Bonnie - it looks super on you! As for the Endpoint dress, I had high hopes for it - do you think it'd look better belted?

  2. I just reviewed the endpoint dress- maybe because I'm carrying some baby weight I actually appreciated the non body forming sack shape..I think it looks cute on you even though you don't care for it. Also love the blue dress, very pretty

  3. Hi Bonnie,
I am not really into bold stripes and I wouldn't of given that dress a second look, but I think the endpoint dress looks really fab on you. I have been thinking about purchasing the rusicada top, is it TTS?
    Thanks for the great reviews!

  4. Love that last outfit on you - I want it! It will be perfect for those mid-summer sweltering hot days. Also, I too fell in love with the catalog shot of the asymetric top & wide legs outfit but decided against the top because of the material, but it looks great on you.

  7. LOL! No, not kidding. I just wasn't feeling it, but now that you've said it makes me look tiny...maybe I should reconsider.

  8. Thanks! It's totally a sweltering hot day outfit.

Is was an awesome photo wasn't it? Jerry was jealous. I wore the top yesterday, and we did our best to recreate that shot. Look for the post in the next few days.

  9. Thanks! Since so many of you like it on me, I think I'm going to try it on again next time I'm in the store.

The Rusicada top is TTS. I took my usual size in tops, medium.

  10. Congrats on the baby! I'll have to check out your review of the dress. You guys are convincing me that I need to reconsider it.

  11. Thanks! The Endpoint dress just didn't lend itself to belting for me. People are saying they really love it on me, though, so it might work for you just as it is.

  12. It DOES make you look tiny, and I adore the print. Maybe try it on again, belted, or with a colorful (or even floral!) cardi layered over it.

  13. For what it's worth, I thought the Endpoint dress looked fabulous on you. You should totally reconsider! I also loved the Bee dress, but I can't really see the poof issue you're talking about, so maybe I'd have to see that before making any judgement calls. Anyhow, thanks for the reviews!

  14. I've gotta say, the Endpoint Dress is way out of my usual fitted-waist-full-skirt comfort zone, but it looks seriously amazing on you. I love the Blackbird Shorts, too, but I think I'd have to hem them to make them a little more flirty and a little less gym-class culottes.

  15. I still lol over the "busted biscuits" comment. Some people say the darndest things. Seriously though, you don't look "biscuit like" in any way, shape or form.

  16. Hi Bonnie, I really like the chevron endpoint dress! Was it more unflattering from other angles? From the front you look really long and lean. I agree - run back and get it!

  17. Negative...the dress as is...no belt no cardi. I would also suggest simple sexy black heeled sandals and one or two big unembellished gold jewelery pieces but I know that may not be your style.

I have never commented on your blog, but this single dress inspired me to do so, The dress is simple yet is with purpose...and you look very sexy in it. Be bold, get out of your comfort zone.

  18. The Ines Column dress... Not feelin it. I loved the striped version, but this one reminds me of a mummy. Not that you look like a mummy, but the ivory strips are kind of bandagey.

  19. I've never commented before, but had to because I am in total agreement about the endpoint dress. It's sooo flattering!

  21. Just got the Sky Trails in blue after seeing this and your other pictures. It is beautiful, the color is great for dark hair. I usually can only fit into a limited amount of generously sized things at Anthro, and this dress is one of them. I think even if I lost weight it would still look good, and I agree that the pieces under the arms would be easy to fix. Thanks for the review, and I also used my birthday discount- very happy!
