"I felt the wind on my cheek coming down from the East and thought about how we are all as numerous as leaves on trees and maybe ours is the cause of all mankind: getting loved, make more, try to stay alive." - Rilo Kiley

This is my outfit from Monday. I took a sick day from work yesterday, and Jerry joined me at noon. We decided to watch a movie since I couldn't do much else in my miserable state. I've been wanting Jerry to see "Bridges of Madison County" for awhile now, and it just happened to be on TV yesterday. The last time that I watched this movie I was a teenager, so to say it had more of an impact on me this time around would be a bit of an understatement. By the end of the movie, I was sobbing like a baby, and Jerry was thoroughly depressed. It was like reliving our ordeal from last year all over again. It brought back all the heart wrenching emotions and internal struggles from that time in our lives. In other words, we were a complete mess, but it was some good therapy. We had a really good talk after it was over and enjoyed spending the rest of the day together.

"We are the choices we have made." If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, it's about a housewife who meets a photographer while her family is out of town. She connects with him on a level that she never has with another person. (What is it with photographers?) They fall madly in love and have a passionate affair over 4 days. The photographer wants her to run away with him, but she makes the difficult decision to stay with her family, thus sacrificing her own dreams for the sake of others. This is scarily close to what happened to me last year. However, I made a different choice. I made the choice that I felt in my heart was right for me, and I don't regret it.

I read and hear about so many people struggling in their marriages. Some choose to leave, and some stay. I respect both choices. I believe every situation is different and there is not one "right" choice. There are so many people and situations out there, and we each have to do what we feel is right for ourselves. Even though this housewife, this fictional character, made a different choice than me, I was struck by the advice she gave her own children. Ironically, they were the last lines of the movie: "Do what you have to to be happy in this life. There is so much beauty. Go well, my children.''

  1. Ahhhh, choices. Like this outfit! This outfit should be proof to everyone out there who feels the absolute burning need to point out "you've gained weight" or "there's no way you're a size ___" that no, you are not fat, you haven't gained enough weight to be OMG noticeable, and yes, you are a true size___. The whole thing is so perfect for your body; it slims, skims and runches in exactly all the right places and shows off every asset you have from seemingly every angle Jerry photographed. The 4th photo is undeniable proof for all the nasty-kittens with their over critical hypersensitive vision.
And if I have to go by popular opinion, you only want to hear comments about your hair, right? So I think, with my hypercritical eye, that it's washing out beautifully and you probably don't need to spend the money to have it highlighted. I didn't like it in the previous shoot, too dark and monochrome. But like most changes in life that seem sharp and harsh at first glance, time softens them. Hair color is a perfect example.

  3. Could you be longer, leaner, more gorgeous? I think not. Love the new hair colour. For what it's worth, that movie always made me cry when the father and children came home, turned her music off, and completely ignored her. I always felt she made the wrong choice...

  6. Love the scarf. It's so pretty.

Bridges of Madison County is so heartbreaking. It reminds me of this quote " To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts." Ahhhh...so true. As women we are often so focused on taking care of everyone else that we completely leave ourselves off of that list.

  9. Finally, you've got the silly blog you've always wanted. It's a clone of all the other vacuous cookie-cutter, self-obsessed blogs out there with the same tired old reader comments every single day. "OMG you're amaaaaazzzzing! You are awesome!!! You're gorgeous! You're perfect! You're beautiful!! You're not fat!! OMG so awesome!!" Apparently, a steady stream of idiotic superficial ass-kissing from strangers is what you need to feel good about yourself and your life. That is very sad.

  10. See, it bugs me that Bridges of Madison County makes the character have to choose between love and her children. Thankfully, in real life, most of us can leave a relationship and not leave our children. I find it harder to relate to the book/movie because it seems like a no-brainer to me. I can't imagine leaving my children, and I would really dislike the character for doing so. Now if the book had the photographer stick around town, then I would find her choice interesting.

  12. Thanks, Lisa! I love this comment and how you tied it into the theme of the post! I have to give all the credit for making me look skinny to the outfit. While taking these pictures, Jerry asked me if I had lost weight. Nope! I haven't. I guess, like you said, this outfit just hugs all the right places.

I'm with you on the hair. I didn't like it that much at first either, but it's lightened up some and is really starting to grow on me. Funny thing, time.

  13. Aw shucks, thanks!

I feel the same as you about her choice. When she is sitting in the truck with her hand on the door handle, I'm literally screaming at her, "Open the damn door!" with tears streaming down my face.

  17. Yeah, I see what you're saying here. I don't think they had the option of sticking around town. I think she would have had to run away with him because of the time period. The people in that little town would have torn her apart. Hell, I've had my own struggles 50 years later, but I'm glad we've progressed somewhat from that time period.

  18. Wow. That must have really been eating away at you. Glad you had the chance to get that off your chest.

  19. You know I am so sick and tired of you looking so good and skinny and so well put together. It really pisses me off to see someone looking good, happy and healthy. That is a real downer. Please stop, or I may be forced to smile and be pleasant to those who are around me, especially my husband and children who are forced to be in my life due to the love and affection that I shower upon them. HA HA HA HA!!! Sorry, just had to put my two cents in. Feeling a bit sarcastic today. lol! You look great Bonnie! :)

  22. oh Bonnie, you made this ordinary top look so extraordinary. I even went to the Anthro site to look at it since I had never noticed it before, still looked very plain but here in your photos it's one great looking top. Also the photo #1 has a beautiful blue background and makes it pop even more, bravo to you and Jerry (huge fan of Jerry's photos).
