Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews - Party Dress Edition

'Tis the season! I made a trip to Anthropologie over the weekend and tried on some dresses that I thought would fit right in at some of those upcoming holiday parties. I even found one or two that made it onto my wishlist.

Lace & Light Dress ($258). This dress is a real stunner. It's party on the top with comfort on the bottom. The lace top is gorgeous and definitely has a formal feel while the bottom is reminiscent of your favorite jersey dress. I tried on a size 8 and had to acquire Jerry's assistance to zip up the bodice. The tightness of the top was great support for the girls, but I think a size 10 would actually give me room to breathe, which is pretty important in supporting this girl. Ultimately, the price of this little number was enough for me to blow it off for now. Pass.

Bovary Dress ($168).  I'm a sucker for jacquard and the color silver, so trying on this dress was a no-brainer. It's too bad it runs so big. I grabbed a size 8, and I was swimming in it. I thought I would need the 8 for the bodice, because I usually have trouble zipping dresses with a side zip like this one. No such trouble here. I would say this dress runs a full 2 sizes too big. I was running short on time, so I didn't get a chance to try on a smaller size, but I wasn't impressed with what I saw. Pass.

Flickering Slip Dress ($198).  This was a really lovely dress on the hanger. On me, not so much. I adored the beading and flowy silk charmeuse material, but the fit was horrible on me. I looked like I was wearing an elegant sack. I think this dress would work much better on smaller chested ladies because a smaller top half would balance out the roominess of the bottom half. I tried on a size 6. Pass.

Dulcie Dress ($158). Ok, so I've admired this dress on the website for weeks now, but I knew it wouldn't work for me because the bodice has that dreaded wool fabric in it. I had gone through my period of mourning and accepted the fact that me and this dress were never meant to be. Yet, when I saw it hanging in the store, I decided to give it a go for the 'ole blog's sake, and what do you know? It didn't itch not one little bit! In fact, this dress fit like a dream and has now moved to the top of my wishlist. I'll never talk junk about this blog again. This is a size medium. Wishlisted.

Embossed Basket Dress ($168) with Ruffled Mountains Scarf ($48).  Now, you know you weren't getting though a round a reviews without a green item. This dress was my favorite item of the day, and the one I ended up purchasing. I think it's versatility warranted a full price purchase. I love it dressed down with this scarf and my Frye boots, but I also think it could be dressed up for a party with pretty patterned tights, pumps, and statement jewelry. Also, it's seasonless. I see this looking just as good in the Spring as the Fall. I purchased a size medium. Stay tuned for an outfit of the day featuring this dress real soon.

  5. I love the first dress. It would be awesome to dress down with a neutral bomber jacket. And it would be awesome dressed up with great pair of stockings and killer heels. A nice little fancy cape would top it all all of beautifully. BUT - I agree the piece that HAD to do home with you was the green one. I LOVE the fabric and the scarf just slays me ( so pretty!) ! Anyway - great job with the reviews. I really enjoyed them. Cheers! xoxo

  6. I have to say I'm surprised with the reaction to the first dress. I didn't think it was that great when I tried it on, especially for the price, but you guys have me rethinking this dress now. Great styling suggestions! You've convinced me...I'm adding it to my wishlist.

Yes, the scarf slayed me too. It's hanging in my closet now. :-)
