Imperfect

"We the people fight for our exsistence
We don't claim to be perfect but were free
We dream our dreams alone with no resistance
Fading like the stars we wish to be...
True perfection has to be imperfect." - Oasis

"That which causes us trials shall yield us triumph: and that which makes our hearts ache shall fill us with gladness. The only true happiness is to learn, to advance, and to improve: which could not happen unless we had commence with error, ignorance, and imperfection. We must pass through the darkness, to reach the light.” - Albert Pike

Imperfections are what make something unique. In a world where the pursuit for perfection seems to be the ideal, I choose to embrace imperfection. I know I make plenty of mistakes, and I don't always make the right decisions, but I need these missteps in my life in order to learn and grow. I think a person's imperfections are beautiful and endearing. One of the reason's I'm attracted to Anthropologie is because their pieces are unique. I love how their catalog backgrounds and stores often incorporate chipping paint and scuffed up wood. These type of things instantly add more interest. The house in these photos is another example of the beauty in imperfection. This house has been my favorite one in town since I can remember. I wouldn't change a thing about it. I love the chipping paint, old wooden doors, and overgrown vines. There's a charm about it that only time and experiences could have created.

My mom doesn't like that fact that I'm learning and growing. In her eyes, I'm not more interesting, I just "make her sick." These are the words she spoke to me this morning. Strangely enough, I didn't cry and was calm and did my best to defend myself. Nothing I said could make her understand my position. She has completely written me off. I gave her a card for Mother's Day. In it I wrote that I knew she wasn't happy with me but that I hoped one day she would understand, and I loved her. She didn't even tell me thank you for the card. It hurts really bad, but I can't go back now. I can't live a lie so my mom will accept me. This is my path now with or without my mother. My imperfections are a part of me, and if she can't live with them then I guess she'll have to live without me. We are all imperfect people living in a imperfect world, and I think that's a beautiful thing.

  1. You look so beautiful, Bonnie! I love this dress on you - looks fab! You know, a similar thing happened to me one Father's Day with my father (when my parents were going through a divorce). My dad thought I was abandoning him, we had fights, and he didn't respond to my card at all. It hurt. I firmly believe that time heals wounds because, although it's taken a year or two, my dad has come around, and we are developing a new relationship that's stronger than ever. I hope that you and your mom can do the same, Bonnie! :)

  2. I disagree that they are "imperfections", everyone is different, and you are perfect just the way you are! :)

  3. I wish there were some way you could move far far away from your parents. I know they are your blood but frankly they seem so unloving and judgmental, I would run far away. My parents are similar, and I can only tolerate seeing them once a year. I try to have compassion for them because I know they say hurtful things because they are insecure, envious, judgmental, controlling, and have so many issues of their own that they can't face so they focus on mine.

  4. Hi Bonnie - I'm so sorry, I know how painful it is when your parents reject you. Just know you did the loving thing, and when you feel up to it, try again. In the meantime, take care of yourself and your kiddos. This too shall pass.

  5. Give it time. She might never understand but she will eventually come to accept. She's just hurting probably.

  6. I don't know if you pray, but prayer might help you get through this season. It always helps me.
