"You may tire of me, because my December sun is setting, because I'm not who I used to be." - Death Cab For Cutie

Today was hair washing day, and I always dread hair washing day. It's a process, and I'm just lazy I guess. I have to shampoo and condition it. Then I have to comb it out, blow dry it, and straighten it with a flat iron. Tomorrow when I wake up, I will have a nice natural curl, and I won't have to do a thing to it. Day 3 can go one of two ways. Either it still looks nice enough to wear down or it's limp and greasy and I have to pull it back. Then the cycle repeats itself all over again. This is my hair routine, and it works for me.

So, I was noticing when I was blow drying my hair today that my roots look awful! There are so many gray hairs up there. I have got to get my "hair did" stat! Gray hairs are something my Aunt would refer to as "a sign of the end times." It got me thinking about getting old. Some of those crazy commenters the other day, were using terms to describe me like "old" and "middle aged." Is 33 considered middle age? I guess when I was 20 something I considered 33 old, but now that I am 33, I don't think so. I don't feel old. Gosh, I hope this post isn't offending old people. LOL! There are so many things I haven't experienced yet. I hope I get to experience some of them before my time runs out.

I'm re-mixing things from my closet again today. This is getting fun. I haven't been to a shopping website in 3 days. I think this is progess people! I got this little jacket from American Eagle several months ago. It's been hanging in my closet with the tag still on it, so I decided today was the day to finally wear it. I knew I wanted to layer something flowy underneath, so I chose the Thrush Song Blouse. It has a little bit of the same color green in the pattern. Since my top is flowy, I chose straight leg jeans with booties. I really like how this turned out! Today's photoshoot went much smoother than yesterdays. I was still freezing, but the wind wasn't blowing and my husband kept his mouth shut, so that helped alot.

Well, it's back to the grind tomorrow. I wonder if Anthro will have a sale this week. I really don't need anything on my wishlist to go on sale. I've got 3 more weeks to go before I have money to burn. Today's song is another one by Death Cab For Cutie. When I thought of the word sunset this song came to mind. It's about getting old and becoming a different person than you used to be. When I first saw the title of this song, I thought it was a weird title, but now that I know the context, I love it. It's about two people who were once close that have grown apart over the years, and now they sleep on their own seperate sides, like "brothers on a hotel bed." Like all Death Cab songs, I love the lyrics in this one. This is from the album Plans. Have a good night!

  1. Bonnie, you are neither old nor middle-aged. People think you are older when they hear three children, that is, until they see you or your pictures. Honestly, you dont even look over thirty. Dismiss the few comments (like you said, just because someone said it doesnt mean its true). You have very youthful and beautiful features! Cheers to that!

  2. HI Bonnie
I like your aunts comment about grey hair being"a sign of the end times" That cracked me up!
You should also disregard the ridiculous comments about middle agedness. Consider the source, an anonymous poster! I think age is a state of mind, not a number. I like your music choice today. Dcfor c were always a favorite of mine;)

  3. Hair looks fabulous, Bonnie, as does the outfit! Tried to comment yesterday but Blogger ate it - twice! I gave up! Anyway, great colors on you yesterday as well.

33 is not old! Whoever said that was just a child! Geesh! I am 34 and still feel young (though my 3 kids sometimes make me question that...). I love being in my 30s as I am finally (for the most part) comfortable in my own skin. I feel like I have come into my own, so to speak.

  4. P.S. I am happier now (in my 30s) than I ever was in my twenties. I have experienced enough of life that I have got a bit of wisdom to shrug off the small stuff, appreciate the little things and just be happy. I think I am stronger, both physically, emotionally and mentally. It just gets better along the way (including those few extra wrinkles and grey hairs).

  5. i didn't comment on the "controversial" post b/c clearly things had gotten out of hand by time i read it (plus, even as one of those skinny types, i took zero offense to it!)...but i did read the comments and chuckled at those who called you 'old' and 'middle aged'--haha..how old are your commenters?!! if you're over the hill at 33, then i, at 35, might as start drafting up my bucket list!
i had friends go grey by 25--you're youthful and fun--dont' let a couple of strands (or crappy commentors) tell you otherwise!

  6. I wish I could go 3 days without washing my hair! I have to wash it pretty much every day to avoid the it looking greasy. I highlighted my hair myself today...it actually turned out pretty good for my first time doing it! However, it was about the least fun thing I've ever done.

I'm turning 32 in February. I don't consider 33 old. My hubby is 35 and we have yet to start a family. I always thought I wanted to be a cool young mom. Not happening! I suppose I'll just act young and do my best to look younger than I am whenever we have kids (if we have kids)!

You look great. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise.

  7. Bonnie, your pictures are always so unique. And as fellow thirty- something...old is a mindset!

  8. Cute outfit I like the colors. And totally not old! To be honest I thought you were in your 20s! I'm turning 34 at the end of this month=don't feel old but feel wiser for sure. At work we celebrated my bday during our monthly cake day...everyone seemed to think I wasn't embracing it because they assumed I thought I looked older, and all reassured me I look in my 20s. It's more that I am not happy about where I am in my life/career and another year passing just reminds me of that, lol! Gray hair isn't always a sign of age :) my cousin went gray at 19! I can't see any gray from here :) Saskia

  9. Btw I totally agree with Thirteenlbs--my 93 year old grandmother sometimes seems younger than me! Her spirit shines very bright!

  10. You should definitely pull that jacket out more often...such a cute piece to layer with! Love it! ALso, those last two pictures are GORGEOUS!!!

  11. 3 days of no online browsing Bonnie! Get you ;)
Seriously though - I like seeing older pieces (even if they still have the tags on), it's like you are taking on your own mini remix challenge until February. Bravo. It is nice having new things and getting fantastic sale deals but I like when all the ladies mix up their old and new items :)

Oh and no 33 isn't old by any stretch of the imagination. My husband is 32 in May but still dresses like a teenager, plays Xbox when he isn't working, still plays football with his mates. Sure he plays golf A LOT (but he works in golf and in recent years it's rapidly becoming something "youngsters" take up over here) but I would never describe him as old. He did turn to me at 00:01 on NYD though and say to me "now I can say you'll be 30 next year". Grrr!

  12. I love your outfit Bonnie and your pictures are beautiful as usual! I especially love the last two and how the sun was captured behind you.
And no, 33 is definitely NOT old!! I just turned 31 last month and I think I'm going to love my 30's way more than the 20's. :-)

  13. Cosmo cowgirl: Good to know 33 isn't considered middle aged. I'd hate to think my life is halfway over. LOL!

ali: Both my mom and my aunt have some of the best sayings. Death Cab is my favorite band ever! I've seen them live 4 times.

Cathy: Thanks! I feel the same way about my 30's. I think I look and feel better about myself than ever before.

Anon: I got a kick out of all the comments too. It didn't bother me at all. I just laughed and laughed!

Tracy D: I didn't think I could, either. I used to wash my hair everyday because I felt dirty. The girls in my office convinced me to give it a try, and it has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I feel so free. I love being able to wake up and not have to do anything to my hair. I think it actually looks better the 2nd day than the 1st day after washing it. You should give it a try! Enjoy your youth! You still have plenty of time to have kids!

    Thirteenlbs: Thanks! I agree!

Saskia: Thanks! God bless you for thinking I was in my twenties! LOL!

Jenni: Thanks! Yeah, I can't believe I haven't worn it until now.

Louise: Now that I'm doing the remixing, it's fun! Congrats on turning 30 next year. I think you will find the 30's are much better then the 20's.

Debbie: Thanks! I love the one's with the sun as well. You're right, you're going to love your 30's.
