"Songs for life's lost lovers, bitter sweet their healing. All my life revolves around laughter and crying as my life turns round and round." - Echo and the Bunnymen

Well, it happened, my Christmas miracle. My dad came to my Christmas dinner last night. My mom gave me a heads up yesterday afternoon that he was planning on coming, so I had a couple of hours to prepare myself, but I don't think you can ever really prepare for seeing someone you've been estranged from for over a year and a half. I was a nervous freaking wreck. I tried to drink some alcohol, but I was so busy cooking, cleaning, and wrapping presents that I didn't have time to get as fully intoxicated as I would have liked to given the situation. Turns out, I didn't really need to get drunk. My dad was...dare I say it...nice. He was like a different person. The cold, callous man from our last meeting was replaced with a warm, loving father. We hugged and talked a little bit and although it was a little awkward at first, he made me feel more at ease with his pleasing demeanour. I don't know what happened to change his attitude, maybe he was visited by some ghosts or some shit, but you don't question a Christmas miracle. You just go with it.

The night would have been perfect save for one very important detail. Jerry was not there. He decided to leave at the last minute, texting me after he had left to tell me that he was gone. I was sort of in shock when I read the text. I couldn't believe he had left me on such an important night. Due to his absence, my happy night was tinged with sadness. He later explained that he left because he felt he couldn't hold his tongue if my dad said something untoward, so he didn't want to risk ruining the evening. Although I understand his motives, I'm still a little upset with him. I guess relationships are just like everything else in life. You have to take the good with the bad. As long as you've got love, you can get past your differences.

  1. Those pictures are stunning. I want to steal your outfit-green is most definitely your color! At first glance, I thought the background in the pics was that insanely expensive but beautiful woods wallpaper that Anthro sells. I'm so glad you and your dad were able to come to a reconciliation of sorts. I'm sure he was even more nervous than you. I hope that 2013 brings more good things to come. Don't be too terribly hard on Jerry-I'm sure his heart was in the right place and maybe thought the first meeting with your dad might be smoother if he wasn't there. I totally understand why you're upset-I'd be too, but we gotta love our guys-after all, they put up with us crazy women. Merry Christmas to all of you!

  2. I think it's always safe to assume that, whatever Jerry does, he's doing what he thinks is best for you. We men may not always be right in our judgements on what that is...but jerrynis always going to err, ifmhe errs at all, on the side of love.
