Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews

As promised, here are some fitting room reviews from my trip to Anthropologie this past weekend. I wish I could have snapped more pics for you guys, but I did not have a good experience in the fitting room this time around. I felt fat, got hot and sweaty, and a piece of wool got stuck on my contact and aggravated me for hours. Bitch mode was in full effect and somewhere along the way pictures became the least of my worries. Despite all this, I managed to find a few pieces I liked. Of course, then came the agonizing decision of which piece to bring home with me. I ended up choosing the dress you saw in yesterday's post. I apologize for Anthro's filthy fitting room. I was all excited that I got the "penthouse suite" of dressing rooms, but my excitement quickly dissipated when I saw the disgusting state of the floor and mirror. Anthro, I love you, but given the fact that you charge an arm and a leg for your merchandise, you can at least clean your fitting rooms every once in awhile. Anyway, on to the reviews...

Calla Asymmetric Dress ($178)  This dress was on the mannequin just outside the entrance to the store. It seems like my Anthro store always gets me with their "outside look", and this dress was no exception. I tried on both a small and a medium and ended up going with the small. I thought the tighter fit of the small balanced out the conservative nature of this dress. I loved the print and the green background color. The material was thin and a little on the see-through side in the naughty fitting room lighting, but I think it will be fine in a more natural setting. The length was below my knees, so I don't think I'd wear it with my tall boots. However, it should work just fine with tights and booties. Overall, I was pretty smitten with this dress and added it to my wish list.

Tierred Pointelle Sweater Dress ($148)  This dress caught my eye in the September catalog, but once I read the material details, I knew it wouldn't work on me. Angora, wool, and nylon - sounds like hell to me. Still, I knew you guys would be interested in seeing this dress on a real live person, so I decided to go through hell and back to try it on for you. That's right, I did it all for you, dear readers. It comes with a cotton slip, so I was hopeful that it might just work for me if the arms weren't too itchy. Nope, it was ever bit as itchy as I thought it would be. I kept it on for all of 2 seconds, but in those 2 seconds, I managed to get one of it's floaty little wool threads in my eye. This is not what I had in mind when I said it caught my eye. Material issues aside, the fit wasn't that great either. I tired on a size medium, and the band in the middle hit me at the widest part of my waist. I passed. Oh, and if you are wondering what that growth is coming out of my neck, it's Jerry's arm. What's the use of having the penthouse if you can't share it with the one you love?

Patchwork Jacquard Dress ($148)  This was a sweater dress that I thought might work on me. Cotton and silk are much more skin friendly than wool and, thankfully, don't spawn itchy, floaty things. I tried on a size medium, and I thought it fit pretty good, but it just looked really boxy on me. I passed.

Toggled Back Chemise ($68)  I went in the lounge section looking for the Spaced Dyed Chemise, but my store didn't have it, so I grabbed this chemise instead. The size medium was a bit big on me. The arm holes hung down too far, and there was a little too much room through the waist. The material on this felt like a true chemise to me. I don't think I would wear this out and about even with a cardigan over it. It was cute, and the small probably would have fit perfectly, but I have no desire to pay $68 for something to wear around the house. My house clothes usually consist of old maternity clothes and worn out knit pants that are 2 sizes too big. I passed.

Scoopback Maxi Dress ($148) and Crossed Beads Belt ($58)  I was hoping this dress would be in my store, and it was! I love the idea of a maxi dress for the colder months and this dress is such a great blank canvas to accessorize in many different ways. Anthro's maxi dresses usually run big, so I initially grabbed the size small in this. The waist band was uncomfortably tight and my back fat was on full display. I went up to a medium, and although the back fat was more hidden, that darn middle band was still uncomfortably tight. At this point, I was hot, tired, and pretty fed up with trying on clothes, so I exited the fitting room and walked around the store awhile to cool off. Once I felt better, I took a large back to the fitting room with me along with a belt. Bingo! The large fit great, and I loved the belt with it. The material is unbelievably soft. It's like wearing pajamas. Now the only question is what color to get. I noticed this week that it comes in blue too. What say you? The more versatile brown or the more vibrant blue?

Gemma Peasant Blouse ($98),  AG Stevie Ankle Color ($158), and Fritillary Ruffle Loop ($38)  I'm obsessed with finding teal jeans. I don't know why teal appeals to me more than all the other colored denim out there, but you don't ask why when it comes to love (Anna Karenina with Keira Knightly is 2 months away. I can't wait!). I tried a pair of teal Pilcro's first in a size 28, but I couldn't even get them over my ass. The store didn't have a 29 or 30, so I tried a 31. They fit over my ass but were so roomy they looked like total mom jeans. Remember that walk I took to cool off? Well, I found these AG teal jeans while I was out there. I picked up a 30, and they fit like a glove except for the length. They were really short, like high waters short. I looked at the tag and discovered that they were ankle length. I wasn't really digging the ankle length, but I figured I would be wearing them with boots, so it wouldn't matter. They're teal and they make my ass look good - that's all I needed to know to add them to my wish list. This peasant blouse kept calling to me from across the room, but upon closer inspection I found the material to feel really cheap for $98. I needed something to pair with the teal jeans, though, so I grabbed it anyway. The size small fit great, and I really loved it with the AG jeans. I threw a scarf from my wish list on over it, and I had myself an outfit. I will probably end up purchasing the jeans and the scarf at full price, but I'm going to hold out until sale for the blouse.

  1. You should do more bitchy fitting room reviews-I love them! My faves on you are the first dress and the maxi. I just went on a maxi-dress binge for fall. Old Navy had some el-cheapos that I can wear with my more pricey Anthro finds. I'm like you-I want colored jeans too-especially red, plum, and teal, but I'm unsure how I'm going to wear them....? Buy your teal jeans first and I'll take notes. :)

  3. Thanks for the reviews.
Go get a PA on your recent full-priced purchases today. Today only at Anthro there's 20% off all full-priced clothing and accessories. And I heard they were giving price adjustments.

  4. I really want to scoopback maxi dress as well. I'm 5'9 so it's going to be perfect. ....but a Large??!!! I think we wear the same size, and I've never bought a large at Anthro. That's crazy talk. Thanks for the heads up though. And yes, I say go for the brown for fall winter. Personally I'd wait for the blue to go on sale and then wear the heck out of it come spring. Sneeky sneeky! ;)

  6. I love the Calla dress on you!! I would say the brown maxi would be more versatile for fall/winter. And the last outfit is so cute. I think I may need a pair of teal jeans!

What is it with Anthro dressing rooms?! I experience the same issues- lots of dust bunnies!

  9. Thanks for the feedback!

I don't know what the deal is with the dressing rooms. It's like they never clean back there!

  10. I've never gotten a large in a dress at Anthro before either. Of course, some would say that's what I need to be wearing all the time. Anyway, that elastic band at the waist is super tight. I could have gotten away with a medium aesthetically, but the fit was uncomfortable. As I've said before, size doesn't matter to me, so I went with the one I was comfortable in.

Thanks for weighing in on the color debate. I like the way you think! ;-)

  12. Thanks for info! Being the Anthro stalker I am, I got the email a little after midnight the day of the sale. I didn't try for a PA, because I purchased the items in the store and would have had to drive 2 hours to get my PA. With gas prices what they are, it wouldn't have been worth it.

I did take advantage of the discount, though. I purchased the maxi dress and teal jeans from this post. 20% off at Anthro - unheard of! I saved $60. How you like me now, Annika?

  14. I bought three for less than the price of one at Anthro AND found a green one at Modcloth a week later. Yes, I'm an evil enabler. But hey-4 for the price of one should be classified as helping not hindering, right?
