Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews

A couple of weekends ago, I stopped by Anthropologie on the way to pick up our new puppy. I was under time constraints, so I didn't get to try on as many things as I would have liked, but I did manage to snap a few pics for reviews. It was a disappointing trip since pretty much everything I tried on looked horrible on me that day, but I did manage to find one gem out of the bunch.

Ostara Mesh Chemise ($88). This dress caught my eye as soon as I saw it online, so it was at the top of my list of things to try on in the store. It looked great on the hanger, but I was very disappointed once I got it on my body. The top portion hung down weird at my waist line, and the front of the dress seemed a little too short in proportion to the back. I know, I know, I love me some mullet action, but this mullet was a little too intense even for this girl. Still, looking at this picture, I'm wondering if things would have gone better in a smaller size. I tried a medium, but perhaps the small would have been a better fit. Also, the beaded belt they paired it with in the catalog shot might have made a difference. I was bummed, because I really wanted this dress to work. I think I will give it a try in a small the next time I'm in the store. For now, it's a pass.

Damia Strapless Chemise ($78). Same dress, different material, same result.

Knotted Cherry Halter ($58). This top had a cool, retro vibe that appealed to me. In addition, the price was right, so I decided to try it on. The store didn't have any mediums left, so I had a decision to make: was the small or the large going back to the dressing room with me? The voices of commenters past played out in my head, "Size up! Size up! Size up!" I went with the large. The fit did nothing for me, and the little "belt" at the waist was just weird. On a positive note, the material is extremely comfortable. A size medium might have made a difference here, but I'm not into this top enough to go through the trouble to find out. Although, it might be worth it to prove the size police wrong. Pass.

Decadent Layers Shell ($148). This little top is simply gorgeous. I picked it up knowing it wouldn't work on me, but I just had to give it a try. Once I got back to the fitting room, I saw it on a SA and my jaw dropped. It looked so good on her. The back is to die for. I really, really wanted this to work. I tried a medium and a small, and I think the medium was a better fit. My bra was sticking out underneath the lace in the back, so I asked the SA what kind of bras people were wearing with it. Her answer: they didn't wear a bra. Unfortunately, that is not an option for me. Another issue was that the front of the top was very short and boxy, making me look really wide. These things combined with the price ruled this top out. If you are tiny, run, don't walk, to your nearest Anthropologie and buy this top. It's pricey, but you won't regret it!

Convivial Midi Dress ($168). I was intrigued by this dress when I saw it on the hanger. I was digging the print and the cutout shoulders. The bright pink tassels? Not so much. However, the tassels are a part of the removable belt, so I thought I would try the dress on in hopes of pairing it with a better belt. I tried a size 6, and it was huge everywhere except the arms. The bottom part of the arms was pretty tight almost to the point of being uncomfortable. I knew if I sized down so the rest of the dress fit properly the arms would be unbearably tight. Also, I didn't care for the pink thread woven around the neckline. It didn't seem to make sense without the dreaded pink tassels. Pass.

Diamondflower Mini Dress ($118). Ah, finally, we have a winner! I was beginning to think I wouldn't find anything to make me smile during this trip. See my face in this picture. That's what I thought about this shopping trip. LOL! I always chuckle at how pissed off I look in my fitting room pictures. Hey, shopping is hard work. I'm just keeping it real. Anyway, I thought this dress was going to go the way of the other dresses on this day. From the front it looked great, but from the side it made me look 6 months pregnant. For some reason, the back of the dress weirdly hung away from my body. I wasn't ready to give up yet, though, so I grabbed the belt I had worn into the store that day and threw it around my waist. Walla (aka viola)! This dress was instantly transformed from fumpy to sexy. It was enough to turn that frown upside down. Purchased!

  1. I think the Diamondflower Mini Dress is the exact same dress as the bee dress you tried on but didn't like. Isn't it?

  2. Love that last dress! What kind of bra do you wear with it though? Looks pretty low in the back from the online pic. Strapless?

  3. Bonnie, it's VOILA. Viola is a kind of musical instrument. Maybe more time reading and less time buying things you can't afford.

  4. Tomato, tomato, potato, potato, viola, voila... does it matter?? Have a great weekend Bonnie! Keep on blogging!

  5. How does Portia know what you can afford? I think she should look for mistakes in other blogs. It will take up most of her time. Also, I can't decide which is cuter, the puppy or the house. I can't wait to see more of each.

  6. Actually yeah it does. Viola and voila are not pronounced the same and they are totally different. I guess you're just a sheep like Bonnie. Baaaaa.

  7. I love your commentary...makes me chuckle. Shopping IS hard work! It's OK if I find something worth the effort, but often it just makes me cranky - so thanks for doing it for me :o) I really like the last dress - can't wait to see you style it in one of the gorgeous settings you guys always find....

  8. Agreed Portia - sometimes the constant misspellings on here make me have to think for a minute to figure out what she is trying to say. Good feedback.

  9. I also had not idea what she was taking about when she has posted "walla" on here more than once. Not sure what that is about.

  10. You "had not idea" and "when she has posted."

LOL! I has not idea what you are talking about either.

  11. Well, if you mean EXACT as in the cut is the same but the fabric is different and so is the print. I suppose those are just minor differences in your book. They ended up being big differences in mine. The main one being I didn't have the same issue with the arm holes like I did with the bee dress. I suspect because the fabric on this one is heavier or maybe the cut is just slightly different. Hell, I don't know, a lot of times there can be variations in fit with the "exact same dress." This is what I do know: I liked it.

  12. Exactly! I was trying to be funny anyway, and I think it makes it even funnier that I still didn't spell voila right. LOL!

The grammar police need to lighten up a little bit. They get way too bent out of shape over some spelling mistakes. Shock of horrors! How have I managed to get through life without knowing how to spell "voila?" The world may never know...

  13. Well, at least someone around here appreciates good talent! ;-)

Yes, shopping can definietly suck sometimes (a lot of times). I was definitely having a cranky shopping day during this excursion. It is an honor to be your fitting room bitch! LOL!

  14. Thanks, Bea! If I can ever get my internet service at home up and running, I will post more pics. It's been over a week now, and I still don't have internet. Hopefully, I'll be back up and running tomorrow.

  15. Thanks, Catherine! I wore a strapless with it. It does plunge a bit in the back, but not to the bra line level.

  16. I can't believe how petty people are in the comments - Portia and Anabray - you two must have very empty lives and i hope i never meet either of you - i'm sure i won't

  17. Why are you so hostile to anyone that doesn't pay you a compliment in a comment? I read lee's comment as an honest question of whether those were the same dress, yes in cut, so why would you like one and hate the other? We cannot tell things like fabric type from pictures, or that the fit issues were different, unless you put that in your review, or as an answer to one of your readers questions. I also thought it was possible Anabray might not speak English as her first language and so was confused by your plays on words, was giving feedback as your reader, and also might have some grammar errors as a result. Of course you have reason to be upset with those that are truly trolling you, but you frustrate plenty of fellow anthro lovers (or at least myself) by being consistently hostile to many that do not seem to deserve it.

  18. Actually " when she has posted" is entirely correct grammar in this instance. Why you think it's funny to bash others when they are trying to point out that it's hard to understand what you are saying - is beyond me.

  19. Get a life all you bitches! You come read her blog for a reason so why don't you stop if you can't understand what she is saying. Seriously!!!

  20. Ok, I guess you don't want me to be a reader anymore. I will stick to EA and anthro bloggers that are willing to recognize when they have behaved in a way they should apologize for. I actually believed you would take a moment and say, yeah I need to not let certain people make me get so worked up that I take it out on others that aren't coming from a bad place. Then again, I should have realized you wouldn't since you swore to keep the comments section free of trolling, and you haven't. I can't continue reading, though I wish it was different since I have read for over a year. I hope that the new opportunities before you open your heart and mind again, as we have seen them be in the past.

  21. For some reason, Blogger does this crazy thing where it sends most comments through Disqus (like it's suppose to) but some only through Blogger. In addition, if I delete a comment from Disqus, I also have to delete it from Blogger. Otherwise, it will show up on the mobile site. I've been handling this by just deleting comments in both places.

However, another issue has come up this week. The comments only coming through Blogger, are only showing up on the mobile site when approved. Given this, I have no way of responding to them.

There has been a particular commenter named ac who's comments I have approved but are not showing up on the full site, and, therefore, I haven't been able to respond to them. I'm going to attempt to copy and paste his/her comments under my name, so that everyone can see them and I can respond to them.

As for the commenter under the name Fat_Lady, please go away. I have no intention of publishing your numerous comments. You really need to find a hobby to occupy your time.

I hope all of this makes sense. I know some of you have a hard time "understanding the words that are coming out of my mouth," or, in this case, out of my fingers. Sorry, couldn't resist.

  24. I'm sorry if I came off as hostile in my response to lee. You're right, I could have handled it better. I was annoyed by the nitpicking in the comments, and I let it get to me. Sorry, lee!

As far as Anabray not speaking English as her first language, that may very well be the case, but if she can't speak English herself, she doesn't need to be critiquing mine. Fod God's sake, it's not liking I'm speaking in Ebonics or something. I make a grammar or spelling mistake from time to time. I'm human. I tell jokes that not everyone might get unless they have been reading the blog for awhile or are really, really old like me. I don't want to change my writing style to please everyone. I want to be myself. I guess I expect people to react the way I would: take what you can get from something and leave the rest.

I proof read everything I write on here at least 4 or 5 times, but after you have been staring at it for hours, it all runs together and you miss things. I even have Jerry look over it before I publish most of the time. I'm doing the best I can here. This is why it annoys me when people pick out one freaking spelling error and totally ignore the rest of the post. It may not seem like it, but I put a lot of time and effort into this blog, so I'm sorry if I'm not all, "Thanks for pointing out my spelling error."

Bottom line: If you are a stickler for grammar and spelling and it gets your panties in a wad when someone makes a mistake then don't read this blog. It is panty wad inducing. I'm doing the best I can, and, frankly, it annoys me when someone points out grammar/spelling mistakes (which I'm sure are in abundance in this comment).

  25. I'm always sad to lose good readers, especially long time ones like yourself. I agree with you. I do get too worked up sometimes and don't respond in the most appropriate way. I'm sorry for the instances where I have done that.

If you don't enjoying reading this blog anymore then the best thing you can do is move along. Life is too short to spend it doing things we don't enjoy.

I often think about shutting down the blog. It's especially been on my mind since I haven't blog that much the past 2 weeks. Life sure is easier when I'm not having to take pictures everyday and type out a post. However, I miss it. I find this little blog of mine very fulfilling even though it is difficult at times. So, I will keep going until I feel like you and don't enjoy it anymore.

Thanks for the well wishes. Take care.

  26. Thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully respond. I really do wish you the best and am sure I will see you around on the other sites. I will just take a little break from yours to let the drama that seems to sneak in here fade a bit in my mind (as I am sure you need to do at times too).

  27. I rarely comment on a blog. Here, I am commenting twice on one post. I am doing so because you obviously put a lot of effort into your posts. For a long time, I didn't understand these people insulting you over such minor things like grammar or spelling mistakes. Now I think I do. It's like road rage or misplaced anger. Also, you did apologize to Lee. How can anyone fault you for that. Please do not discontinue your blog. That said, I hope I spelled everything correctly!

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's not correct grammar; in fact, your whole sentence is a run-on nightmare. Ironically, I had a hard time understanding what you were trying to say so maybe you shouldn't throw stones. Further, the "others" who were trying to point out that they couldn't understand what the Mod was saying--they were not being very nice at all. They deserved her ire. It takes a lot of time to try all of these clothes on and put this all together so that we can see what everything looks like before buying online. I'm appreciative and can overlook a typo. B***hes!
