It's that time again! I made a trip to my nearest Anthropologie this past weekend and tried on lots of pretty things. I love all the vibrant colors and lighter fabrics that Spring brings to the store. I lucked out and got a huge dressing room this time around, so I had plenty of space to indulge in some Anthro retail therapy. As usual, I ended up deleting some things from my wishlist, but I also added a few.
Scattered Stellata Dress ($128). This dress was at the top of my wishlist, so I was really excited to try it on. I tried a size medium, and, at first glance, I loved it. However, once I walked closer to the mirror in my cavernous dressing room, I noticed that my tummy pooch was being displayed in all it's glory. I don't mind a little bit of tummy, but I know from past experience that it can cause mass hysteria in the majority of the population. Seriously, though, it wasn't very flattering on me. Even I have my standards, and emphasizing my flabby gut is crossing the line. If you got abs of steel, this dress will be great for showing them off. For the rest of us mere mortals, it's a pass.
Brimming Borders Mini-Dress ($288). I saw this little number from across the room, and it was love at first sight. I fell hard for the cut-out shoulders, off-centered embroidery, and delicate beading. I knew the shape might be a problem on me, so I armed myself with a belt. What a difference the belt made! I really, really wanted to purchase this. However, there was just one teeny, tiny problem: the price. This is a really well made dress, but $288 is a lot in my world. Hopefully, we can be reunited at sale time. For now, I will have to be satisfied with admiring it from afar. Wishlisted.
Konza Dress ($168). This dress caught my eye a few weeks ago while I was browsing online. I immediately added it to my wishlist in a size 6. That's the size I thought I had grabbed in the store, but after struggling to get it over my boobs, I decided to look at the tag. I grabbed a size 6 UK which is a size 2 US. Oops! This is the size 2. After I discovered my error, I had Jerry grab me a real size 6. The 6 was a perfect fit. I may have finally had enough room in the dress, but I didn't have enough room in the budget to bring this home with me. I hope to make it mine next month. I can see this being a cute, comfy dress to wear with flats and sandals throughout the Spring and Summer. Wishlisted.
Inwood Dress ($148). Just looking at this dress on the hanger, I was pretty positive it wasn't going to work on me, but Jerry encouraged me to try in on anyway. I was right (as usual). This is a size 6, and the skirt portion had way too much material going on, and the pockets added even more bulk. The color pallete was very similar to the Konza Dress above, and the Konza was way more flattering on me. Pass.
Fan-Cut Iberis Dress ($168). I tried this dress on for fun. On the hanger, it just seemed way to sweet for my taste, but once I got it on, I really liked it. This is a size 8. It's super comfortable, and the cutouts in the front and the back are really sexy. My only negative is that it's a tad on the long side, but that's an easy fix. I think the price is a little high on this one, so I'm going to try and wait it out until sale time. Wishlisted.
Torchon Embossed Ponte Dress ($128). This dress was on a mannequin just outside the store. It was styled with a simple skinny belt and a pendant necklace. I'd been admiring this one online and had added it to my wishlist, so seeing it styled sealed the deal. I tried on this color and the cream one. The size medium fit great in both. I preferred the cream one, because I felt it was more versatile and the color was more flattering on me. The comfort, fit, and versatility of this dress sold me at full price. I purchased it in the cream color and added this color to my wishlist.
Cinch and Flow Maxi Chemise ($88). I have this dress in black, so I decided to give the striped version a go. This is a size medium, and while the fit was good, I did not care for the color or the stripes on me. I felt a little like a Pepto-Bismol bottle. Pass.
Chambray Romper ($128). I couldn't resist this 70's inspired denim romper. I've always wanted one of these. The store was all out of size 8's, so I tried on a size 10. It was a perfect fit! The bonus is I don't have to wear a bra with this. The top is fitted enough that the girls are locked and loaded. The faux brown buttons down the side (it zips) are a nice touch, and I love the wide legs. So groovy! I plan on wearing this with wedges in the Summer. Say what you want about this. Honey badger don't care. This romper makes me happy, and I don't have anything like it in my closet. Purchased.
Fairweather Plaid Buttondown ($78). I don't wear a lot of plaid, but this plaid blouse really appealed to me. I like the Spring-like colors and gauzy fabric. This is a size 8, and the buttons pulled a little through the chest. I think a size 10 would have been a better fit. I'm not willing to pay full price for it, but I will definitely purchase this on sale. Wishlisted.
Marya Sweater ($118) with the Urubamba Tank ($78). I saw these two hanging out in the store together, and I thought they had a really cool, beachy vibe. I tried a size small in both the sweater and the tank. I liked the fit of the sweater. Unfortunately, the fabric felt like a tobacco sheet. I know, most of you probably don't know what tobacco sheets feel like. Believe me, not good. I have traumatic memories of lying on tobacco sheets at 5 am when I was suppose to be helping my parents with "putting in tobacco." The top was very comfy, but it just didn't quite feel like my style. On the other hand, Jerry loved this combo. His enthusiasm wasn't enough to convince me, though. Pass on both.
Parquet Pullover ($78). I really loved the maxi dress version of this fabric, but I already own a very similar maxi from last year. Not one to be deterred, I decided to give the top a try. The size small fit good, and it was beyond comfortable. However, it just didn't wow me. Also, it's a little on the sheer side. I might consider this one on sale, but for now, I passed.
Mystery Top. Sorry, but I can't seem to find this one online. I was attracted to the pretty, feminine print and the lace detailing. I've been watching a lot of Mad Men lately, and this reminded me of that era. I can see Betty Draper totally rocking this blouse. The size 6 fit good, but I just wasn't feeling it. I think it was a little too boxy on me which took away from all the feminine details. Pass.
I <3 the Chambray Romper. I say bust out some roller skates when you wear that baby!
ReplyDeleteYou always look good in everything! Im jealous of people like you!
ReplyDelete"Say what you want about this. Honey badger don't care." -- this made me laugh out loud!! Nice purchases!! I think you looked fantastic in all of them!
ReplyDeleteI so wanted to like that Romper on me but I found it so short-waisted. I thought I'd either get a wedgie or flash a boob because it was so short in the body/torso.
ReplyDeleteLove the romper and the plaid shirt! The honey badger comment was hilarious! So, are you telling us you only came home with one thing, Bonnie?? :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, that romper is fabulous on you! You've tempted me to try it, and I would never have been brave enough without seeing you in it first. Of course, I'm a wee bit height challenged, so that might be a problem. **Sigh**
ReplyDeleteThat romper is adorable on you. There's no way I could pull it off without looking like a small child... jealous!
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of rollers, maybe because I lived thru the 70s when they were called jumpsuits and were horrid (how do you pee???). But I love that minidress you belted.
ReplyDeleteRollers? Try rompers. Stupid iPhone.
ReplyDeletewhat the heck is a honey badger?
ReplyDeleteI love that romper on you! I wish they made rompers to fit me, at 5' 8" with a long torso they never work.
ReplyDeleteLove your purchases, Bonnie! You carry off that romper like I've never seen before. Niiice! Hope you're having a great week! Ciao for now. (:
ReplyDeleteOoo! I thought you looked fab in the pink stripes! I know it's not your regular type of outfit - but I think it looked great! The pink went great w/ your skin tone and hair color
ReplyDeleteI usually lurk...but I had to jump in and say you are only person I've seen that looks good in a romper! It fits like a dream on you. Loved the locked and loaded comment lol. Can't wait to see the photo shoot. JMO I think you should reconsider the
ReplyDeleteIberis dress. It's a nice look for you too. I'd buy it myself but the colors are all wrong, maybe I just want to live vicariously through you.
PS love your taste in music. I've learned about so many good bands through this blog.
Really?!? You don't know what a honey badger is? That's just terrible!
ReplyDeleteIt's only the most badass living thing in the universe. Honey badger doesn't give a shit about anything. Honey badger is my hero.

LOL! I guess I got the right body type for rompers, or this particular one anyway. Not a wedgie or boob in sight.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Glad I could provide a good laugh! I really try to make my reviews somewhat entertaining. Of course, some people find them entertaining in ways I don't intend. Oh well, at least I got something for everyone. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis comment made my day! I got it while Jerry and I were eating lunch. I saw the name and told Jerry I was scared to read it. LOL! "Usually a Lurker" could either be really positive or really negative. I'm a pessimist, so I was leaning negative. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to see it was a really nice comment. It brightened up the rest of my afternoon. So, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love this romper so much, so it's good to get so much positive feedback from it. Also, one of my favorite things in the world is introducing people to new music, so I'm loving that you have found new bands through this blog!
Thanks, Jessica. I just wasn't feeling it. However, I saw this on the Rockstar Diaries chick yesterday, and now I'm having second thoughts. I have to keep reminding myself that everything looks good on her, so that shouldn't change my mind. I don't know. Maybe I'll get it on sale.
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'10" and the bottom part of the size 8 fit fine but there was not enough inches in the top portion....way too short!
