"I feel safe. I feel whole knowing that it wasn't your fault or mine. I've felt the change in the colors in leaves, the color of dreams. Fall, you were my best friend." - Future Islands

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the nip in the air, the pretty colors of the leaves, boots without tights, and cardigans instead of coats. It's hard to believe it's almost over. It's turned cold here this week, leaving me with thoughts of Winter and reflections on Fall.

I feel so unprepared for Winter. I guess I'm in denial. My poor legs were freezing in this outfit. I think it's time to bite the bullet and break out the tights. Don't get me wrong, I love tights. I think they can add a lot to an outfit and at the same time, keep you warm. It's just there's nothing more comfortable to me than a dress with knee socks and boots. Oh, and have I mentioned how much I hate coats? They're big and bulky and every time you get in the car or go in somewhere you have to take them off, then it's back on again to go back outside. The worst is going shopping while wearing a coat. You constantly have to drag it around with you and keep up with the damn thing. I realize these are small problems in the grand scheme of things, but they are just a couple of reasons why Winter is my least favorite season.

This Fall will always hold a special place in my memory. I went through a lot of changes and discovered things about myself along the way. I did some things people didn't agree with and down right pissed some people off, but I stayed true to myself. I experienced the pain of rejection and the joy of love. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

As we were looking around for a place to take these photos, I noticed a bush full of vibrant pink blooms. It was really odd to see blooms like this in the Fall. It reminded me of something Jerry once said. He told me I was a late bloomer in finding myself, but that the later blooms always seem to have the richest hue. The same could be said for our love. A love that has grown even stronger over the Fall.

  1. Green is really a lovely color on you. Thank you for sharing! :)

  2. I hate winter, too, and I would much rather wear knee socks with boots. Since you are so fond of green, I was wondering if you might remember a blouse from last fall/winter (I believe?). It was just a plain, green pussybow blouse (not the Dots Within, but similar). Know what I'm talking about? I'm searching for the name, so I can see it styled...

  3. I'm assuming you're talking about the flowers in your hand, and they're one of my favorite flowers called camellias. They're from Japan (and other parts of Asia) and bloom in late fall and continue to do so in winter. They are actually evergreen trees. Some varieties bloom in the spring, but most of them bloom in late fall and continue blooming well into winter. It's very inspiring to see such beautiful, large, and bright blossoms when every other living thing has receded into the ground. Also, the ones you're holding are called double-flowered because they have an abundance of ruffly petals. The single-flowered ones have less petals that reveal a large and bright yellow center. The red single-flower variety is my favorite version of all. That's a whole lot of information on a flower, but I hope it will help you develop your metaphor!

By the way, your whole outfit is perfection. I would have never thought of pairing that scarf with the dress. Actually, I didn't pay much attention to the scarf or the dress until I saw how you styled it. Doesn't matter if you're an Anthro model or not, but you're definitely selling the outfit to me. And really, Bonnie, how do you find these amazing settings to match your outfit? Your town is magic.

  4. Thanks for the info Jade! I told Jerry I thought it was a camellia bush, because I had one in a former yard. That one bloomed in the Spring, though. It had bright pink blooms with a yellow center. I didn't realize that most varieties bloom in the Fall and Winter. That's awesome!

  5. Hmm...don't remember that one off the top of my head. I'll do some searching and see what I can find.

  7. Thanks! I just thought you might have purchased it. :) I remember EA reviewing it and I've been pouring through her archives, but I must be overlooking it...

  9. They're supposed to be trees, but I'm sure you can manipulate the roots (or the genes) to grow like a bush. And I was wondering if you put this particular outfit together first and then found the setting or did you find the place first and then picked colors from it?
