The Labels Don't Lie

Just a quick post to clear something up. One of the many things that has been said about me over at GOMI is that I lie about what sizes I wear. The big joke over there is that every blogger is a size 6. It came to me this morning that this is one accusation I can put to rest. I took a few pics of the tags on some of my more recent outfits. As you can see, I do wear a size 6 and in the case of the Pilcro skirt, a size 27 or 4. Also, unbelievable as it is, my 36 D's are quite comfy in a size small. So, even though I may not look like it, I do in fact wear the sizes I say I do. My main point here is to clear this up for you readers. I know some of you use my sizing reference when making purchases, and I didn't want you to have any doubts. I know a lot of us are having "trust issues" right now. It's sad that it's come to this, but it is what it is.
Here's my supporting evidence:

  1. Bonnie, you don't have to worry about people doubting you on this, at least not Anthro people. We've all tried on many of the same garments you have and can see the consistency in how they fit on us compared to how they fit on you.

GOMI people have their problems, see; and one of them is that they JUST DO NOT KNOW HOW ANTHRO CLOTHES FIT. Shocking that there'd be this gap in their knowledge, but there you are.

I do think there's some intelligence in the GOMI community, though, so I'm going to hope my previous two sentences will be read by them (if they see them at all!) with a sense of humor. Hope!

  2. Honestly though, you shouldn't validate those posts with a response. Who cares what size you or anyone else is? As long as you're healthy and happy. No one's opinion of you should matter except your opinion of yourself.

  3. And because sizing means so much and is so consistent, this fall I can wear a Size 00 J Crew Dress and a Size 31 (=size 10) in their Matchstick Jeans.

  4. Haha, thanks for the post Bonnie. I think it's silly that you are called out on what size you wear (or seem to wear). As long as the clothes look good on the body...who really cares right? :-) Can't wait for your outfit later today! :-)

  5. You should not have to "prove" your size to anyone. Ridiculous.

  6. Oh, lord. I saw those comments and had to roll my eyes. It's always weird to me when people accuse women of lying about their sizes. I think one problem is that it's hard to estimate sizes for women with larger chests, or curves in general. But why would you try anyway? Are you a fitting room attendant?

  7. Bonnie, I know you didn't mean for this post in particular to be funny; but for me it was. When reading through the last couple posts you have written I have said out loud to Jason "If people really knew her ..."!

I will admit your life lately has taken a lot of twists and turns I, a person that knows you in real life, wouldn't have seen coming. But through it all I love the honesty, pain and often humor you are putting out there! Most of us don't have it in us to change!

  8. I think what a lot of people don't realize if they don't buy Anthro clothing, is that Anthro has vanity sizing. The sizes are huge. I am 5'10" and usually wear XS or S tops, and size 6 bottoms in Anthro clothing. Sometimes I even fit in size 4 which is hilarious. Those sizes are a serious joke in true designer sizing!! No way am I a size 6 in designer clothing. I am a size 8 in designer clothing. I am slim but I am not anorexic. So when you mention your sizes, they are for Anthro clothing. I think Anthro does it simply because most of Americans are overweight so they need to appeal to the masses. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to make us feel smaller than we actually are.

  9. Actually, I did mean it to be funny, so I'm glad you got it. I could always count on you to get my messed up sense of humor. I'm also glad my screwed up life can be a source of entertainment for you and so many. I hope you are doing well. Miss you!

  10. Pilcro is insane. I have huge momma-jama hips and I wear a 28 (a 6?). In J. Crew and Boden, I am an 8 or 10. When I am wearing a 4 or 6 in any brand on bottom, my "fishy vanity sizing" tentacles go crazy. LOL. Gotta love vanity sizing. :) Boden keeps me real...they tend to be more "true-to-size."

  11. It's funny to me how women who are supposedly not vain and don't care about sizing, know so much about it. I had never heard the term "vanity sizing" until a few days ago. Who knew sizing was so complicated? Most of what's in my closet is a size 6 and I have a few size 8's. I hardly ever deviate from those 2 sizes. Maybe sizing is trickier for other people, but it's always been pretty simple to me.

  12. I agree. It is ridiculous. Just having a bit of fun.

  13. Yes, I could care less about size. Saying I'm a certain size doesn't change my appearance. Why would I lie about it? Silly rabbits!

  14. I realize you're being sarcastic, but do you really have that big of inconsistencies in sizing? Obviously there is some inconsistencies in sizing, but for the most part I wear a size 6. Must sizing be so technical? What do I tell someone when they ask what size I am? "Too complex to compute." Maybe I should change my sizing reference to state that they are averages, because that's really what they are. It can vary anywhere between a 4 and 10, but on average I wear a 6.

  15. I'm bored at work and just having a bit of fun today. I don't take any of this too seriously. You're right, only my opinion of myself should matter.

  16. It's good to know my Anthro peeps have my back. I hope we all can take this with a sense of humor.

  17. Actually I do, believe it or not. It is more related to J Crew than anyone but I'm tiny on top and much bigger on the bottom. I am also 4' 10" tall. If the skirt is right in terms of the waist placement I can pull it off (or at least I hope so LOL) I am embarrassed to admit that the first time I fit into a 0 I felt so happy, now I realize it's about how I look and not what size the label is. Another life lesson learned.

  18. I was just talking with the ladies in my office, and I think proportion has a lot to do with it. I've always been very proportional, so I guess that's why I don't have the struggles you do with sizing. It must be so frustrating. I guess sizing can be more complicated than I realized. Lesson learned for me too.

  19. My sizes vary a lot, but that's exactly why it's so silly to assume you can tell by looking. What does a "size six" even look like? Cindy Crawford and I both wear a size six sometimes, but we do NOT have the same body.

  20. Bonnie, one thing I have always liked about you is your honesty. Even if it's private or uncomfortable, you put it out there and own it. I really liked the way you handled the GOMI thing, you were very honest-- first angry, then you accepted it, went over there and owned it with a sense of humor. That is an amazing character trait, and really rare...I think you won over some more readers with that.

  21. Bonnie, I think it is sad that you have to show people your clothes labels!! Women should not have to be defined by a size.

  22. Bonnie, I have read your blog for a while and never commented.

Just forget all these silly (mean and spiteful) comments that people are throwing around. I read your blog to look at clothes from a shop I like, and get some ideas for how to wear things differently, and colors to wear together. I like your poses; I think people may forget how hard it is just to look pretty in a simple and repeated pose, and you do always look pretty, composed, and wonderfully dressed. Just remember that you probably have a large readership who don't comment, who like you and your blog just the way it is.

Regarding size, it just makes me laugh. I am pretty much the same size and height as you but have a totally different body type (tiny boobs and muscular with big hips/bum) so I wear a size 0 to 4 depending on the brand and if its to fit my big bum or boob-less-ness. I am sure if I told people I weighed 135 lbs they would tell me I was lying, but I do.

  23. This post makes me sad because it reeks of insecurity and honestly, I think you should remove it. It just shows how much you've let GOMI's petty comments get you down, and I'm sorry it's made you so insecure that you have felt the need to post these photos. Who cares what one person thinks?

You shouldn't have to prove yourself to GOMI.

Additionally, this post makes me feel uncomfortable because you are so keen on proving that you are a size 6 that I'm wondering if there is something magic about that particular size. Is it the ideal size or something? Should I aspire to be a 6? It just seems as if you are placing a lot of importance on it.

(The post in which you picture yourself 'loving the wall' in response to GOMI is hilarious though, and that shows you are capable of taking negative comments with a sense of humor.)

  24. I didn't mean for this post to be taken so seriously. Honestly, I did feel insecure when I first read all the things being said about me over there, but I'm over it now and can see the humor in it. The reason I was focusing on size 6 is because that's the size on my sizing reference and GOMI said I was lying about being a size 6. I don't put any importance at all on size.

  25. It kind of bums me out that you felt you needed to do this, but at the same time it cracks me up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've been reading your comments over at GOMI, too, and girl, you crack me up. You are a gem.

  27. Screw GOMI. You look like a 6 to me. Who are they to criticize what we say about our size.
