“A man's errors are his portals of discovery.” - James Joyce
I take time every morning to find a quote of the day that speaks to me. This quote by James Joyce was a source of comfort for me this morning. Something good came out of all the drama that went down yesterday, I discovered things about myself that I think will help me grow as a person. I had a really bad day yesterday, but I'm determined to learn from it and move on. I've made mistakes, and I will continue to make them. The important thing is that I learn from them. I'm just doing the best I can to get through this life, and I want everyone to know that I would never intentionally hurt someone. People will choose to take my words the way they want and there is nothing I can do about that. I enjoy writing on this blog, and as long as there are a few of you out there that want to listen, I will continue to do it. Just know, I will continue to be true to myself and write what I feel. That's the only way I know how to write. Thanks for reading!

Hang in there - love your blog!
ReplyDeleteYour thoughts and opinions belong to you and I enjoy reading them. It takes all kinds of people to make up a world and not everyone will see things the same way. Those people should perhaps read another blog that suits them better :-) Please don't let it ruin your day.
ReplyDeleteBonnie- I'm a new reader/follower and I love your blog. Can't wait to see what it brings in 2011. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I really like your blog and your style and I hope your day goes better.
ReplyDeleteNot to make today bad or anything but this sentence "People will choose to take my words the way they want and there is nothing I can do about that." kind of rubs me the wrong way. Especially in electronic communication, bc things can be taken in different ways, we do have to try and be careful and own up to the things we say. There are things you can do and take responsibility for what you say (yes, this is your blog and freedom of speech and all that, but you are also a part of a community and that entails social interaction). You did apologize. Apologizing, recognizing how words could be taken the wrong way and then in the future getting your point across in a way that isn't hurtful is part of "doing something about it".
For instance, in future reviews, saying how a certain item looks great on your body or emphasizes your curves would be fine. But saying that you've seen bloggers who aren't as curvy not look good in it, is not. There's a difference there...does that make sense?
I'm not trying to start an argument and think that everything seems to be resolved (?) and am really not trying to start off another one. I just wanted to express how I feel about reading that sentence "People will choose to take my words the way they want and there is nothing I can do about that."
Hi, Bonnie:
ReplyDeleteI am a regular reader of your blog but I have never left a comment before. What I love the most of your blog is that you express your true and honest opinion about life and fashion. I am very happy to see you choose to continue writing your blog as the way it was. Great job!
There you speak, girl! Excellent philosophy, I 100% approve!
ReplyDeleteVictoria, let it go, please. We don't need any more of this started again.
ReplyDeleteI saw Bonnie apologize many times and I don't think she did anything wrong. I also did NOT see anyone else on here who attacked her on her own blog apologize. Not one. That's very wrong.
Let's move on.
The nasty comments at least 6 people left yesterday about Bonnie, especially those saying unkind things about her or her personal life, were WAY out of line. Where are those people in terms of apologizing?
ReplyDeletePeople who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I think it would behoove us all to try to be better people.
Stay strong Bonnie! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jean Ann. Let it go Victoria! It's your personal choice to read Bonnie's blog. If you don't like the lexicon she uses for her reviews, then scamper off!
Dee
I agree, those people should apologize too - it was way out of line. Letting it go and moving on...
ReplyDeleteLoved your reviews yesterday Bonnie :)
Amen Jean Ann!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blog. I read it every single day of my life. Please please please don't stop writing.
ReplyDeleteYour statement: "That doesn't make it true. Isn't that the point of a blog? To type out your thoughts, to give your opinions on things." is 100% accurate. It's your blog, write what you like about YOU, and if others don't like it, they can stop reading.
Keep your head up, Bonnie. I still think that what you said in the original post was in no way, shape or form offensive. It's not like you said "And when X blogger tried this on, I thought it looked bad on her." People need to relax. And as prior comments point out, nobody apologized for the extremely personal attacks they made against you. I think the Internet gives people a way to say horrible things that they would never say to someone's face. Your blog is really good, and I appreciate your honesty when discussing all aspects of your life. Continue to put yourself out there because as I hope you have seen, there are a lot of us who support you.
ReplyDeleteAs we're all saying - let's move on and hopefully put the bad stuff from yesterday behind us.
So happy to get past all the uproar from yesterday! So blown out of proportion. I'm happy to see that you're continuing with your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to just give a shout out to vintageglammz! I saw her comment on the last post. I think she's adorable, and I love her style. I'm glad she's able to let the ridiculous comment from an Anon roll off her back.
I have read other blogs that have focused on issues such as real estate or the economy, and I had to stop reading the comment section because people were so nasty to one another. One thing I've really appreciated about the Anthro blogs is that the comments were always very sweet and/or helpful. So I was sad to see it get so nasty yesterday. So let's all try to treat each other with respect. We can disagree but let's not resort to name calling and insults. As my mom always told me, treat others how you'd like to be treated.
Look for ward to your next post! Sorry to see all the catcalling that happened . You are entitled to your opinions! Hope you have a nice weekend. Wanted also to say i enjoyed your contest it was a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI love that quote! That's the journey of life! It takes guts to keep moving forward....kudos!!
ReplyDeleteYour point about never intentionally hurting anyone is greatly taken to heart, and shouldn't be overlooked by anyone. I think giving people benefit of the doubt is a gift and is hard for some to give/understand. Keep your chin up!
Bonnie: we are all growing and learning things about ourselves. I enjoy your blog and continue to look forward to reading it. Keep your head up!
ReplyDeleteAli posted one of the best things I've seen on here. You ARE entitled to your opinions - bottom line.
ReplyDeleteEspecially on your own blog!
I agree with Victoria's comment 100%. You do have the right to say whatever you want on your blog, but it seems you haven't learned the biggest lesson that people had hoped you would learn from yesterday's debacle: that there IS something you can do. You CAN choose your words more carefully next time, knowing that your words do have a certain effect on other people who read it.
ReplyDeleteFail.
Victoria and Anonymous - leave Bonnie alone. The First Amendment - last I checked - is still a part of our constitution.
ReplyDeleteStop lecturing other people on what to do Anonymous - it makes you sound like a child.
ReplyDeletePlease grow up. And stop bashing Bonnie over the head with this! It's wrong.
Anonymous - if you read the thread, I've moved on and let it go. Please do the same.
ReplyDeleteWow, I just read some of yesterdays comments and even a couple from today. I am amazed you even wanted to post anything today you are a courageous woman. I reiterate my comment from yesterday, it is your blog and your right to say whatever you want to say. I wonder if anyone who was offended by your comment ever bothered to read an Anthropologie review about any particular garment, they are full of descriptions of what body type will or will not be suited by that particular item, but everyone thinks this is a great service not offensive so why is it offensive when you do it.
ReplyDeleteI would say since the overwhelming majority of comments were in support of you and saying how much they enjoy your blog I would be tempted to just turn off the comment part of the blog altogether and say whatever you please and if people don't like it they just don't have to read it.
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteLove your blog.... I check in everyday and so appreciate your style, photography, etc. I tried following what has been going down. If a blogger that I follow and like says something that I might find a little "off" I would give that person the benefit of the doubt like I give ALL my familiy and friends...Every single person in my life, Inc myself, has said something that didn't come out sounding right, or may of been a little snarky or sassy... It doesn't make them bad people.... I dont have to reprimand them, call them out or condemn them, geez!!If If I enjoy a friendship or a blogger enough to follow or have them in my life then maybe I should given them a little slack :)))
Loving your blog and will conti us to visit!
Elizabeth/saltypaws
Bonnie you are a wonderful person. Please ignore people who want to make you feel bad for no reason - you did nothing wrong. Some of these people may have internal issues of their own, but you didn't do anything to them.
ReplyDeleteThere should never have been made an issue of this.
Keep on doing the great work you do blogging!
People don't need to read your blog if they don't like it, and they definitely shouldn't try to "censor" it either. It's your blog!
ReplyDeleteI am one of tons of people on here who don't think you did anything you need to apologize for and I will continue reading. To the nasties: don't like it? don't read it!
I agree with the other posters who said some people on the fashion blogs are just looking for affirmation (don't I look great in this dress? look at me). I think it would help for some people to take a long, hard look at themselves and see if they fit that category - and if they are projecting some of their own issue onto this whole overblown situation. Really!
