Grey Day

"And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears. And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears. Get over your hill and see what you find there, with grace in your heart and flowers in your hair." - Mumford and Sons

I'm in a dark place today. I'm sure you all are getting sick of my depressing posts. I'm sick of myself. It's been a very long day, and it is so dreary outside. I'm so overwhelmed by emotion that I feel like I can't stand it. I just ache inside. I hate this feeling. I came home early, put on my pajamas, cried for an hour, threw on my FUGG boots, picked up my kids, and came back home. My husband didn't get in until late tonight, so I had some time to get myself together. I put my dress back on that I wore today, so we could take some photos.

My outfit matches the weather and my mood - grey and dreary. However, I really like it. I was Joan Holloway yesterday, so today I decided to go for a Betty Draper/Francis look. The only place I added color was my lips. I'm wearing a really bold red lipstick. I had several people tell me I looked nice today, so it seems this outfit was a success.

Today's song is "After the Storm" by Mumford and Sons. I had to take my son to the doctor this morning, and this came on while I was driving. I haven't really listened to this song that much because it's the last one on the album. It really spoke to me today and gave me hope. I really want to get over my hill. I hate feeling like this. Work is torture. Today, was especially bad for some reason. I sit at a desk all day and stare at a computer screen. My thoughts haunt me. Longer days and warmer temperatures are only a few months away. I'm hoping that will cheer me up.

  1. I notice gloomy weather makes me feel down sometimes too. They say the best way to combat it is to go outside! Even though that's the last thing we feel like doing! lol. Hang in there! At least you look cute even if you don't feel good!

  2. I'm sorry you're not feeling your brightest but the outfit is beautiful and you look great, so that's worth putting a smile on your face!! Plus, I was checking out the post where you share your home, and it is lovely, so that's something else to smile about!

  4. You do look very pretty today, despite your mood. I love the lipstick and the way the cropped jacket fits with the dress. It is a lovely silhouette!

I have noticed that you have been blue lately. Have you considered talking to someone about it? I know at various points in my life (ESPECIALLY when the kids were younger), seeing a therapist helped. No drugs or anything like that. Just some talking. I found that just talking to someone who was completely neutral and uninvolved in my life relieved stress. I did not have to watch any of what I was saying and I wasn't worried about being judged and somehow getting it out helped. After I said it out loud, I was better able to deal with the stress and feelings.

Please don't take offense to that, by the way. I just think that maybe you are in the same boat balancing work and family and budgeting and everything else... That stuff adds up! Even when everything is under control, the stress of keeping it that way is rougher than people realize.

Either way, I hope you feel better soon!

  7. I don't think this outfit is dreary - in fact I was thinking of using this dress in my 30 for 30 selection :)

My mood is often linked to the weather as I said yesterday, a little bit of sunshine perks me up no end.

I'm sorry that you are feeling a little down right now Bonnie but if writing your feelings down here helps then carry on. Don't feel you should bottle your emotions up, sometimes blogs are like diaries or journals, if you need to vent feel free - it's your space!

  9. I remember when my kids were young that going to my "girls group" was such an important release for me. It started as a book club but eventually we ditched the books and just brought wine and relaxed/talked. I looked forward to that night all month. It really helped me knowing that others shared my anxieties, frustrations, etc. Maybe something like that would be fun?

You look lovely, as usual, Bonnie. Even in the darker days you are a bright light.

  10. Bonnie,
Sorry to hear that you're not feeling yourself. I agree with everyone else, you look great - you'd never be able to tell. Don't keep it bottled up, I find (with myself anyways) that this only makes things worse. I hope you feel better soon, we are all here for you!

  11. Bonnie, you look just beautiful as always - hope you get some rest, lady! This time of year is so awful so many people (myself is absolutely included) - here's to wishing for brighter days to come! These nasty days are so awful on moods.

I also will second what Ady said - sometimes just talk therapy works wonders if you have a lot on your mind! Sometimes we all just need to get out what's on our mind to someone (and the great thing? They won't tell another soul what we tell them!). :)

Hope your days improve, Bonnie - you are one gorgeous lady! Your style is an inspiration to me!

  12. Kelly: Thanks for the advice. I'll try to get out today and get some fresh air.

Dea: Thanks for reminding me of all the things I need to be thankful for!

Loraine: Thanks! I like the lipstick too especially with these vintage-type outfits.

Ady: Great advice! You're right, I do need someone to talk to. I went to the Psychiatrist, thinking that's what would happen, but he just listened to me for 10 minutes and then put me on some drugs. Maybe I'll check into a different place.

    JanAlyssa: Thanks!

Sharon: You could probably still track one down.

Louise: Yes, I read your post about the weather. I was thinking that I must be the same as you. Thanks for putting up with my depressing rants! LOL!

Sara: Aww, thanks! My eyes are red, but other than that, I did pull it together pretty good. I have an awful crying hangover today, though.

St. Germain: Thanks! I wish I could find something like that. It sounds fun!

AP: Thank you for being here! It helps to know there are people out there reading.

Mandy: Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm going to look into the talk therapy. I'm also going to start writing a journal. I'm hoping that it will help me to write down everything I'm feeling.

  13. Hey Bonnie, I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well! I agree with others that you should see someone about this, whether a psychiatrist or psychologist, i.e., in case you may have real seasonal affective disorder versus just the winter "blahs." Please don't take offense to that suggestion - it's coming from a real place, though I may be biased b/c I work in healthcare...but we really do see this a lot, and it's definitely not a "weakness" to receive therapy or medications! Despite all of this, you look gorgeous as always, and I truly hope you feel better!!

  15. Hi Bonnie,

Thanks so much for your encouraging comment on my post. And I hope you feel much happier and lighter-spirited in the coming days. It can be so difficult when the weather is dreary, on top of balancing so many other responsibilites. As usual, you look absolutely gorgeous and your outfits and posts continue to be an inspiration to me.
