After the Harvest

Hello readers! I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend! I spent the day cleaning and running errands. I have one final concert to attend tomorrow afternoon, so I had to get all my chores done today. I'm going to see Vampire Weekend, so I'm very excited about that! I got my husband to take some pictures this afternoon. All the cotton has been picked, so I thought it would be neat to take some pictures in the empty field. We found alot of interesting places to take pictures while we were out there, including a pile of cotton that got left behind. It was a real challenge to get these with 2 kids and a dog in tow, so they made it into some of the shots.

I just got this dress from Ruche. I got a size medium, but I think I could have taken a large. It's a little short and low cut for me, but I put the Outdoor Cafe Cardigan over it, and that helped. I finished things off with the Looping Lanes Belt and suede boots from Urban Outfitters.

When we were at the grocery store today, I mentioned to my mom about how crazy it was trying to take pictures with the kids and dog running into the shots, and she made a sarcastic comment about "how awful" that was. Then she said she was embarrassed by the fact that I posted pictures of myself on the Internet. It seems like everyone is trying to get me down about doing this blog, but I'll be damned if I'm going to stop doing something I enjoy just because some people in my life don't agree with it. I'm not gonna lie, though, it really hurt my feelings that she said she was embarassed by me. Oh well, you can't please everybody I guess. I'm glad you guys enjoy the blog, and I'm thankful for all your kind comments! There's ALOT of pictures. Sorry! I have a hard time editing!

CONVERSATION

  1. You always have beautiful outdoor shots! And great outfits as well! My husband interviewed for Lenoir Hospital (?) back in 2007, but we ended up in SC.

  2. Please don't let naysayers get you down, Bonnie. I remember you saying she is just that type of person and unfortunately is negative. My husband's mother is a negative person and sadly is often putting him down too.

You are a sweet person Bonnie and your blog is beautiful - please DON"T let anyone's negativity spoil anything you enjoy.

You CAN empower yourself when the putdowns come too - you can choose to say" mom, you can put me down if you want, but then I will choose to end that conversation because it is not helpful to me." I'm betting something like that would make you feel a lot better.

    Have a great weekend Bonnie!

  3. Bonnie, you are so beautiful! I love how you are so creative with your pictures - the fields and old farm areas are just gorgeous back drops! And the pup and your kids are precious! They are wonderful additions to the pictures today! It truly looks just like an Anthro shoot!

I'm sorry to hear that people in your life are putting down your blog - you have such a lovely blog that you obviously enjoy! It's especially hard when a loved one puts down your special hobby, and I'm sad to hear it happened to you (it's happened to me before too, and it is rough).

Just remember that as long as you enjoy creating, modeling, and shooting those gorgeous outfits and pictures, there's no reason why you shouldn't keep them posted on a special blog that's just for you. :)

  4. Hi Bonnie,
DOn't let negative comments bring you down. I had a negative comment too, and was about to shut down shop, but i just kept going!
I love your outfit, it screams "fall". Longline cardis are everywhere these days, and i love how you styled it here with the looping lanes belt.
    Your kids are super cute!
    Cheers
    Jen

  5. I just wanted to say, as a follower and big fan of your blog, that I really admire you for taking such pretty outfit pictures and posting them. I'm sure there are ladies out there just like me, who have yet to take that step (but deep down really want to).

Though there are naysayers out there, know that you inspire and delight a lot of your readers with this blog. :) Cheers!

  9. As someone who just discovered your blog yesterday... I want to give you this advice from a sage, old blogger (me lol). I had a blog about 5 years ago and it got to be REALLY popular. In eventually shut down shop about 3 years ago and then retained an address, but here's the thing:

    1. Many people will not understand you
    2. Your personal life people will not always understand
    3. The internet is full of hateful people

so do what you want, and don't worry about it!! And if you want, figure out your mom's IP address and block it (well if you switch to typepad you can, I can't remember about blogger?).

I adore your cotton field shots. We just moved to Jonesboro, AR and I have been snapping photos left and right. You have a good eye for composition and lighting.

  10. Boonie..these photos are beautiful. I'd like to say the ones of you sitting beside the cotton are my favourite, but that would mean I like the others less, and they're all so gorgeous. You get out when the sun is sooo pretty.

Hope you keep blogging, I know it's hard when it's someone as close as your mother disapproving, but please believe we appreciate your stuff! :o)

I think you've really bumped up the 'local' blogs - motivating regular bloggers to amp up their photo shoots and give us more interesting posts - I think you're personally responsible for that, girl! You've raised the bar!

  11. I love love love the shots with the cotton. So ethereal! maybe this blog is a no-go for conversation with the mom? Like politics and religion.. if you can't agree, you just don't go there. I think it's too bad your mom doesn't support you, but maybe she just doesn't get it, you don't have to convince her, we all love your blog :)

  12. I am in love with all of your photo shoots! Your blog is wonderful and your style is inspiring. You shouldn't let anyone tell you otherwise!

  13. These outside shots are gorgeous! The sun's light is perfection! I love this cardigan over the dress and I love that the browns of the belt and boots are different. I've been trying to decide if wearing different colored browns in you belt and shoes looks ok and after seeing this I say yes! Keep doing what you love...you only live once and it would be a shame to adjust your loves and desires because of what others think. Have a great day!

  14. Bonnie, please don't let your Mom's negative comments get you down. You are beautiful and sweet and I bet you're an awesome mom to your adorable kids! As you can see, so many people love your blog and enjoy seeing your beautiful photos, so you have our support! :-)

  15. I check your blog every day, but this is my first time commenting. I just wanted to tell you that the 4th picture down (where you're sitting) is an amazing shot and I think you look so beautiful! All the others are great too and I loved seeing you with your cute kids, but there's something special about that 4th picture. I'm sad that your mom hurt your feelings... that's never a good thing. It would be lovely to have her support regardless of what you are doing, BUT I'm another voice telling you that I love your blog and what you're doing and you have a real talent for it. Keep smiling and keep posting!

  16. Wow, I am so sorry to hear that you encountered such a negative, discouraging comment, especially from someone so close to you. In my personal opinion, she has no reason to be embarrassed by you or this blog. I think it's wonderful that you've chosen to share your style and your life with the world, and clearly you have a lot of followers that think you are doing a great job. It takes courage, confidence and dedication to run a blog, and I don't think most people realize that. Don't be discouraged!!

  19. These pictures are stunning, Bonnie. I am sorry that you were hurt by your mother's comments, but I hope you can remember that for every nay-sayer, there are 100 of us out here, just waiting for your newest post! Keep up the fabulous work!

  20. I have a mom who says insensitive and ridiculous things often so I can completely relate. I LOVE your blog. Your styling is totally inspirational and the photography is top notch. Chin Up!

  21. I read your post about your mom not like the fact that you post your pictures on the internet and I just want to tell you how much I like your pictures and your blog. I check it all the time and I love seeing how you put your anthro items together - they inspire me! Don't worry about what your mom says, you have lots of fans. And your pictures are beautiful. I live in the city and I love seeing where you live. Don't stop blogging, you are really good at it. Gillian
