"I'm a professional in my beloved white shirt." - The National

I read something today that said I talk way too much about my work and my co-workers and that HR needs to sit down with me and teach me the ways of being private. Really? I can't recall the last time I talked about work or my co-workers. I mean I might say I had a stressful day or something vague like, "I was talking to one of my co-workers...", but I can't recall ever going into detail about my work. I really don't know where these people get this stuff. And they say I lie about my size... Anyway, I thought it was a strange coincidence, because I was actually planning on talking about something work related today. I guess it would be smart to talk about something else now, but I'm never smart when it comes to what I post on here. It's not about smart. It's about posting what I'm feeling. So, bring it HR!

I received an interoffice email last week stating that guests would be coming and that we needed to tidy up our work areas and dress "professionally." I don't know why, but these types of emails always irk me. I mean, I don't fault the company for sending them out. I get what they are trying to do. However, it's not like I'm thinking to myself, "Damn, I'll have to skip wearing that tube top tomorrow." It just sort of bothers me that all this time I've been trusted to pick out my clothes, but now, all of a sudden, I need to be instructed on how to dress. The other thing that gets me is that I literally don't get up from my desk all day except to go to lunch and the bathroom. I'm a programmer, so I'm pretty much bound to my computer. Most likely, these guests are not even going to see me.

Despite this, in the spirit of professionalism, I decided to put on my best straightjacket dress, conservative cardigan, and sweet floral high-heeled pumps. To finish things off, I wore the staple of all demure ladies, simple pearl earrings. I wasn't very comfortable, but damn if I didn't look professional. However, if you know me, you know I can never fully comply. I walked around all day in my professional garb with my very own little secret that made me smile every time I thought about it. What was my secret? Let's just say I went with my basic instincts. ;-)

  1. OMG! Bonnie between the thought of you taking on HR or your instincts this is cracking me up!

  2. LOL!!!!! Is everyone reading the same blog? I come here all the time, because I find your honesty refreshing and I love your outfits, but I cannot recall you ever talking about your job and if you did, it was always in the most benign, general fashion.

Oh, and agreed regarding emails reminding one to dress professionally. Makes me feel as though I'm a toddler.

  3. I LOVE Julie's comment. Perfect. I hope you sat in every chair in the cafeteria. And fidgeted. A lot.

  4. LOVE those shoes! I stalked them forever, but never bought them. I wish they used that fabric for a pretty flat, too. Now I'm off to scour ebay (again)!

  5. LOL!!!! It thought something was up when I saw your outfit. Not that you don't look beautiful, you always do, it just seemed a bit more corporate than you usual vibe. Love that you had the balls to go with your "instincts". Big time love!!!

  6. Hi Bonnie! I'm a reader of blogs like yours, but have never commented on any blog, period. However, I find some comments to be extremely low and absolutely appalling, and this message goes out to them. Quite honestly, if you don't like reading what someone has to say, don't like their outfits and only have rude and condescending comments, why the hell are you reading Bonnie's blog?! I've come across many blogs where the style was different than my own or in my own personal opinion I thought what they were wearing was a little off; how is it my place to bash them? It's not. Stop reading a blog if you don't like it, no one is forcing you to. Do something more productive with your time.
And Bonnie, you look great and always have interesting outfits, so keep it up!

  7. I know this isn't your usual dress of choice, style-wise but you look awesome in it!! Love the orange and blue combination and the heels are just adorable! I was cracking up at the tube top reference!

I'm thinking you are kidding about going commando...right?

  8. Even though it's not your normal style, I think this outfit is really flattering.

  9. I love those shoes!!

  10. Well, first of all, I'm flattered that mine is the first blog you've ever commented on. I'm sorry that it took "the haters" to get you to comment, but I'm glad you did. Secondly, thanks for the support!

  11. Well, thanks! It's nice to know that someone can read my blog and interpret it the way I intended instead of embellishing it to fit their bashing needs.
"Make me feel as though I'm a toddler" Yes! Exactly!

  12. Thanks, Kristin! I do need to correct you on one little detail, though. I had the vagina to go with my "instincts", not the balls. LOL! It reminds me of this quote from Betty White:
“Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.” ― Betty White

  14. Thanks, Catherine!
Was I kidding? Hmm....the world may never know. ;-)

  15. LOL!!! Too true. Having a vagina is much much tougher than balls. :) Gotta love Betty White!

  16. You are hilarious. I love your blog, I look forward to reading it. You show them, Sister!

  17. Bonnie, I think you wrote this whole post for shock value alone! I'm sure you know that you look ok in this outfit. If you didn't, you'd have tried selling the items, rather than storing them up. It's one thing to go commando and secretly smile all day, but to make sure it becomes common knowledge is just attention seeking, and I find it really gross!

I tried previously to "reach out" and offer you friendship and support, but emails went unanswered, and blog comments went un-noticed. I didn't reach out often enough for it to have been stalkerish, I just tried to offer a little kindness and empathy when you were going through tough times.

Unfortunately, your blog has declined, yet again, in recent months. I'd thought people had been reacting unfairly, and looking for reasons to "pounce" on you when you posted details boasting of your sordid affair, but really, I think you just love the attention - positive or negative! It's sad that your self esteem really is that low!

I hope you find peace one day Bonnie, because I find it sad to see anyone going through what you post on your blog. I hope you are happy in your relationship with Jerry and I hope he does give you some of the support you need. I really hope you will get there in the end, because these cycles just seem to keep repeating themselves.

This post seriously made me want to vomit. The smug smile, and repulsiveness of your bare ass under that dress and being sure we all know about it, just makes me ill!

  18. Anna, you really need to lighten up. Yes, I did it for shock value, to be funny and because it was true. You honestly have never been without you underwear? You need to live a little. Let it breath every once in awhile.

While I don't always respond to every comment, I do make every attempt to respond to every email I receive. I looked through my email and didn't see where you had ever sent me one. I apologize if you did in fact send me one and I didn't respond. I'm sure I had a very good reason for not doing so, as I usually try my best to respond to all emails.

Thank you for the well wishes. I'm sorry that thought of my bare ass made you want to vomit. You really should work on developing a stronger stomach. It's just an ass, we all have them.

  20. Well.... go wild... Just walk around outdoors, naked and shoeless, unshaven, unplucked, sporting your natural hair color (carpet and drapes). ;)

  21. More little giggles from me. I get such a kick out of your sly little winking devil side, Bonnie, and further think you should indulge it whenever you darn so choose with no guilt or self-consciousness what-so-freaking-ever! It's so good to see you feeling confident and being yourself!
