"You said, 'Ain't this just like the present, To be showing up like this.' As the moon waned to crescent, we started to kiss." - Bon Iver

On a scale from 1 to 10, I give this day a 5. It was neither good nor bad, just neutral. I've been pretty tired all day, given the fact that I didn't get to sleep last night until 3am. I tossed and turned, listened to music, watched music videos on You Tube, and then tossed and turned some more. I despise insomnia! I really hope to get a good night's sleep tonight.

My boss is trying to convice me to take off two weeks in the Fall and take a class at this art school to learn how to design and make clothes. My boss is "Mr. Risk-Taker." He has all these crazy ideas and then he actually follows through on them. I have no problem with thinking of crazy things I want to do, but I never actually do them. He's got this whole scenario planned out for me. He says I need to not buy any more clothes, just get ideas from the clothes I want to buy. Then I can use all the money I save from not buying clothes to take the class. When I finish the class, I need to go to New York and shop at Mood for fabrics just like they do on Project Runway and then make my own clothes. He is so crazy! It sounds wonderful, but it will never happen. At least he's given me something to dream about.

Today, I'm wearing the Fluttering Obi dress minus the Obi belt. I decided to wear the Lap Around Belt with it instead. It was in the 70's here today, so I went sans tights, and I actually didn't have to wear a cardigan for once. As I walked to my car after work tonight, there was a warm breeze blowing my hair. It felt so good. I looked up at the dark, cloudy sky and just wanted to stand there forever. Simple pleasures, right?

The song of the day is "Blood Bank" by Bon Iver. I freaking love this song. I love the part about the moon waning to crescent and then they started to kiss. So romantic! I've always wondered what "the secret" was he refers to in it. There are alot of different opinions on what this song is about. I found this one, and I liked it the best:
"The simple conversation in the first verse is just a simple conversation that started a relationship, and the narrator reminisces about the simplicity and innocence of human interaction. This song is quite clearly about past, present, and future. Two people meet at a blood bank, a simple unassuming random location, and soon realize that presently, they are falling in love with each other. Neither of them expected to fall in love, it just happened. The present just showed up. And in that moment, it was cold and day turned to night, and the moon became visible. At defining moments in your life, small details are everything, You can't forget them, and this is a description of them. The last lines of the song clearly depict a view of the future, but it is not a concrete view, but its obviously a reference to a future together with children. The secret that we know, that we don't know how to tell, is love. Love is random and beautiful and undefinable. Sometimes you literally don't even know how to say it or how to describe it." - snakes11

I'm going to try to get some sleep now and hopefully dream of designing clothes, warm breezes, waning moons, and the like. Have a good night!

  1. Cute outfit, Bonnie! I like your description of the wind blowing in your hair.... it is the little things. Good job not hoping in the car and missing the moment! ;) I love the interpretation of the song... and I completely agree about the secret....thanks for sharing! Have a great Thursday! Cheers!

  2. Simple pleasures indeed, nothing nicer than a warm breeze on your skin.

You should do the course - why not?

  3. Those are beautiful colors on you, Bonnie! If the course is something you want to do and your boss is supportive, go for it. Just don't let anyone pressure you into doing something that's really their dream. If your boss wants it and you don't, then he's the one who should be taking the course. Personally, I can't even crochet a scarf let alone make clothes, so I leave that to people more talented in that realm than I'll ever be.

(BTW, this is Katie who emailed you last weekend. I have a blog now! I'm going to follow you if that's okay. :D)

  4. What a great( for me of course) idea with the school of designing your own clothes :) Actually that`s my dream. Can we replace? Can I go instead of you?:) Unfortunatelly there is no such school in my city so my learning is much more difficult. But there is nothing impossible, right? And it is not so complicated like it looks at the begining. And it is quite fun.
Ups... but it is your blog, so I should stop talking about myself...

I`m glad that your mood is much better, even if your day was just neutral.
You look amazing in this dress, and I really like this necklase you wear to this dress.

  6. I love this dress on you! It brings out the color of your eyes and makes your face look so bright! :) You look amazing, graceful and beautiful! Everything works so well together...LOVE IT! What an amazing opportunity for you! I think that would be so great and fun...definitely a great learning experience for you. Not to buy any Anthro clothes though...hrmmm...that would be tough for me and I know it would be for you too! :) Hope you're enjoying your day today.

  7. Sherry: I'm glad I enjoyed it while it lasted. It back in the 40's again today. Gotta love North Carolina weather!

Louise: I am considering it. The class would be in the mountains, so I would have to stay away from home for 2 weeks. I don't know if that's feasible. Plus, I have never sewn anything other than a button in my life. What if I suck at it?

Katie: It's something I've always said I wanted to do, but I don't know if I have the talent to do it. I'm scared of failing and embarrasing myself. When I was in college one of my dreams (besides being a writer) was to design video games. So, I started taking some Computer Science classes. I had trouble writing my first program and my professor was really nasty to me and asked me if I had a "brain block." I walked out of there crying and dropped all of my Computer Science classes that day. I changed my major to Business and decided to take the easy route. I want to take risks, but I'm so afraid of failure.

Mokkafiveocloc: I wish you could go! This school is 6 hours away from my home, so I would have to stay somewhere up there for 2 weeks. Wanna meet me there?

Ady: I wish we could all live our dreams! Man, I sound like a Disney commercial or something. LOL!

Elizabeth: Thanks! Yeah, I don't think it's physically possible for me not to buy any clothes. I think I would just wither away! LOL!

  8. I love your boss! Do it, do it, do it. It won't hurt to have taken the class, it's a measely two weeks out of a lifetime. Do it! And if you don't like it/are bad at it - great! Now you can confidently cross that off your life dreams and pursue something better. Chances are you'll learn something useful there. I think it's so good for us to break out of our routines and go do something cool that we love - it's healthy. And I completly believe you'll like it - you clearly have fantastic taste and aesthetic.

The Computer Science class story makes me incredibly sad.

  9. PS: Have you ever heard of the A Practical Wedding blog? I don't know but I think you would like the community there - especially the "selffull" post from a day or two ago.

  10. I thought I would suck at Zumba but I'm starting to remember the steps to each rhythm and really enjoy it. I'm sure you wouldn't suck as it, you have an eye for aesthetics already. The staying away for two weeks thing would obviously be up to you and your hubby to decide but if your boss is willing to give you the time off and you can work it out with your family, go for it! :)
