ReplyDelete3. I think that the secret to happiness goes beyond "pleasing yourself or pleasing others." It's a far more complicated question.
Hi Bonnie! I am a follower and my fave color is also green. :)
ReplyDeleteI think if you take care of yourself first, then you are more able to be there for others (which equals happiness for me). Thanks for doing this giveaway and congrats on 300 followers!

3. Happiness is finding pleasure in the moment - happenstance. It could be pleasing others or pleasing yourself but it is short lived and goes away when the situation creating the happiness goes away. So, I say happiness consists of both. It is really joy that stays no matter the circumstances.... and that is for what I strive. I have been very unhappy and very happy and neither are permanent. I am always looking for joy.

"Do you think happiness consist of pleasing yourself or pleasing others?"
ReplyDeleteI think it consists of both. It makes me happy when I can make my husband, family, or friends happy. I don't thin you should never do anything to make yourself happy too, though. There is a balance, I think.

I don't have a blog anymore, so I can't enter the contest, but I still wanted to answer your question because it's a good one.
ReplyDeleteFor me, happiness involves pleasing both myself and others. Few things make me feel more fulfilled than seeing the people I happy. My career also centers on serving others and helping them through their problems, so I consider giving to be at the core of my nature. That said, I don't, can't, and won't live my life for other people. I'm willing to make many sacrifices, but I won't compromise on things that jeopardize my self-respect, emotional needs, or overall well-being. Compromising too much and giving more than I am capable of giving leads to nothing but resentment and burnout. I also know that I'm the only one who is responsible for my own happiness. Likewise, my loved ones are responsible for their own happiness. I can offer love, respect, and consideration, but I can't give anyone's life meaning or take responsibility for their fulfillment (and vice versa). Expecting anyone to make me happy (or bearing the burden of someone else's happiness) is neither healthy nor a realistic expectation.
Hi Bonnie! What a generous giveaway! I'm a follower! Happiness.....? I think it's as simple as if you are happy with yourself, then it translates to others being happy in your presence! Have a great Wednesday!

ReplyDelete3. Happiness can be both but you must have personal happiness to even consider pleasing others. Pleasing your children-seeing a look of delight in their eyes- can be pure happiness. I work with individuals who have both disabilities and mental illness-helping them do things that are enjoyable can give me happiness. However, this happiness wouldn't exist if I wasn't happy with my life. I enjoy my job, I love my life and the people in it (not all of the time of course, but on a whole).

ReplyDeleteI say happiness is neither; though it does involve both yourself and others. I don't think a person can be singularly happy without the support, love, and friendship of others. But I don't think our happiness is defined for us by other people. I think fulfilling and enriching relationships with ourselves and loved ones is the key to happiness; a general sense of humor about life; and a willingness to fall down, pick ourselves back up, and enjoy the small things as well as the big :)

For me happiness is definitely about pleasing myself. I used to be so concerned with pleasing others but now I do what I want because it makes me happy. I don't do anything to make others unhappy but I think it's definitely important to do things for myself because I want to rather than because others want me to.

ReplyDeleteTo me, happiness is a state of mind and it can come from pleasing yourself, pleasing others or just by changing your mind. :)
1) i am NOW a follower ( i've been reading this blog via google reader for some time)
ReplyDelete3) for me, it's a combination of both. i don't think i'd be really happy if a select few weren't pleased with what i was doing, but that's just me.

ReplyDeleteI think happiness is a mix of pleasing yourself and pleasing others. It makes me so happy to do things for and with my family and friends, but I also know I have to take care of and make time for myself. It's all about a balancing act, I think.
Longtime follower.
ReplyDeleteI think that for me, happiness is a mix of pleasing others but not compromising myself either.

ReplyDeleteI think you have to please others sometimes to please yourself. Be true to yourself, but don't disregard others' joy.
